I was wondering whether to get either:-

Yamaha RX440 + Yamaha NSP106 silver Speakers + Cheap DVD player

    or

    JVC THA75

Both setups will cost around £300.

Will the All-in-One mean I will get more for my money or will the RX440 system mean I get a better sound?

Has anyone got/heard the JVC THA75?

I've heard a JVC THA-75R but only in store. It sounded very nice a cut above the other systems there. Reviews seem positive too. As the only 6.1 all in one out there it seems superb value at about £300 but it will surely be replaced by a new model soon. I must admit I considered it when I bought my system but back then it was about £530 and my budget was about £400 absolute tops at the time.

I don't believe the system will play ntsc dvds in ntsc mode but instead forcibly converts them to pal 50hz. I would recommend getting a multiregion one as I don't think theres an easy hack although I could be wrong about this.
