I've seen the excellent reviews on the 32" but I'm thinking of buying 37".
Currently have the excellent Philips 30PF9975 and viewing distance from screen to settee is 10ft.
    Will buying a 37" mean I sacrifice a tighter picture quality against a 32"?

Hi - I am also considering this - I have seen the 32 inch version plenty of times in the flesh, but the 37 is more elusive (only spent 10 minutes with one) - as for reviews there is one in last months Home Cinema Choice (can't remember the issue number) - in summary it got a v.good write up... the author put some small caveats (black level only good not amazing) but all in all he considered the picture to be top-end and had no problems recommending it

The others I am looking at are the Tosh 37wlt58 and the sharp GD7...

Although I have tuned freeview in I do not watch it much as I have Sky. I would say it is on par easily but as always it depends on the channels quality of broadcast eg: Channel 5 showing Home and away (happened to be on when i tuned in! ) looked very clear.

DVD via component really shines! its stunning, easliy the best picturre I have seen this side of HD stuff.

I have not tried an upscaling player on it. I too have the HD950 albeit in my bedroom on the sammy. I would test it for you via HDMI cable if it were'nt for the fact that My living room has an entire kitchen in it at the moment due to refurbing etc. If you can wait till end of next week i can test for you? - I am curious to know myself although I will say that upscaling players are a gimmick really. All HD sets upscale to the native resolution anyway so unless you output at 1366x768 (which wont happen with any player) 720p is 1280x768 and 1080i is: something else i cannot recall exactly so you would be scaling the image twice which would theoretically reduce image quality. best result is usually regular 576p and let the TV do the scaling. Alot of people say that the scaler in your expensive new TV will be better than that found in the relativley cheap DVD player anyway.
