I have one, got it yesterday and it is awesome, it's a lot of kit for the money (£410.00) it slotted in really easily (vw passat), the dvd screen is superb even though its only 3 inches, it say's in the instructions that you have to wire the unit into the handbrake power cable so the dvd player only works whilst your at a standstill, this can be easily over ridden if you know what your doing, if you don't contact me and i'll tell you. the panel/screen has 4 angle settings, so you can get it just right.
cant wait to burn dvd mp3's, my glove box will have a lot more space now i can put 100hrs music on 1 disc
all in all its the best i have ever had, only time will tell if there are any problems.
oh i got mine from audio66.com

Does this unit fit into a single DIN slot? Also can you hook up more monitors to it?

got the jvc kd-dv6101 myself today and am very happy with it.got it from german firm grosche.de for €320 incl. delivery to ireland(but its now out of stock) which is a lot cheaper than uk sites.excellent sound and it looks class. this german price checker http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/290185.html should get you the JVC KD-AVX1 or kd-dv6101 unit a lot cheaper than you would pay in the uk.

Anyone know if it can be made region free, and is it plug and play for wiring to the handbrake cable ?

    Cheers

It's not PnP for the handbrake cable (hence I'd love to know how to short it out !) No idea on the region free bit though.

I will post the handbrake by-pass, if mod's want to delete it fair enough. All you have to do is to strip back the plastic on the cable marked "handbrake" which comes out of the rear of the set, and wrap it around the aerial connector at the rear of the set. This gives it a permanant earth, and allows the screen to be on all of the time. But remember IT'S NOT BIG AND IT'S NOT CLEVER!!!

I installed mine on Thursday - I stripped about 3-4 inches of plastic from the handbrake cable - connected the aerial and wrapped the stripped cable around the aerial connector - it earths thererfore H/B not required and a happy passenger :)

    Cheers for the tip BTW

The cable marked "handbrake cable" which comes out of the back of the stereo, not the actual vehicle handbrake cable.

Interesting.. so SM whats your opinion of it.. I presume the screen works anyway if you had it wired to the HB and it would just stop dvd's from playing when on the move ?

I have a Kenwood mask mp3 at the mo.. and I love the mask feature... but the JVC looks so cool :)

Is the screen actual usable considering the small size ? Any chance of some pics in car ?

    Cheers

Will post some pics later on (with something playing on it) :) I think it's rather nice, I had the JVC 901 before and that was better sounding than my Pioneer 8400 :)

The screen would work but no DVD playback, as you said when wired to the HB (but why shouldn't a passenger view it) - It's also nice to be able to "tilt" the front - you'll see what I mean from the pics later on :)

    Nice one Thanks... :)

Ok a couple of other questions.. how bulky is the face when detached.. from the piccies it looks quite large/thick in comparison to normal faces.

Have you tried ntsc dvd's on it ? The lack of region free would mean a bit of ripping etc.. but I guess you could strip out all the menus so the movie just started :)

Just taken some pics of it and am sorting out (PC won't detect my cam!)

It's a little taller than the normal facia but depth it's probably no thicker than my last JVC.

I've taken pics from Spiderman Superbit UK and Kill Bill Japanese from it - so that's the NTSC angle taken care of ;)

    Now THAT'S a good question.

Manual says it'll play pics and MP3's but not together - but I can't help but think that it's a firmware revision away. Haven't tried it myself to see if that's the case but will burn a DVD fill of MP3's with cover art and see what happens.

The 901 did - as long as you converted the Jpg to it's own format - so again, if it can't currently, I'm sure a firmware revision will. Did I mention that it plays DTS ? :) Almost want to pop in a DTS Audio disk to see how it sounds :)

So does it decode the DTS down to however many speakers you have ? (Most cars would be 4 speakers..rather than a 5.1 setup !) Does this also play DVD-Audio discs ? That would be interesting !

I just have downloaded the US manual so I'm off to have a read!

It does seem to - although I've not given it an extensive work out surround wise - but the Kill Bill and Spidey both played the DTS soundtrack without being prompted (The DTS Experience "flew" around the car though) :)
No DVD-A direct support - but the DD mix would work !

It has Subwoofer output so you could get 4.1 ;)

I've not touched my speakers since I had the car - but I think the two rears aren't standard and the two at the front I'm going to replace eventually (once I work out how to gain access to them!)

Not sure - my Peugeot was easy, but the Chrysler looks like the whole door panel has to come off :(

Have burnt a DVD with album art inc. - will let you know later on.

Unless it's a very well hidden setting - the cover art didn't appear :(

Feel a firmware request/revision coming on........
