JVC DLA X9 issue

Can anyone offer me advice on a problem with a JVC DLA X9 Projector? The projector suddenly started displaying warning lights on the front panel (3 of) when switched on, after being unused for several months, but was previously working impeccably.I should say that it had been sitting on Standby power all of the time whilst unused.Although I have replaced the lamp, it hasn't cured the problem as hoped for.The Standby lamp lights up Red when the power is switched on at the plug.It changes to Green when the remote is selected to "ON". After about a minute or so, the Warning light LED comes on as a Steady Red and the Middle LED Amber light for "Lamp" starts flashing (Continuous) and there is no activity or sound detectable from within. The Automatic Lens cover is wide open. I know for certain the last time I used it the cover closed over the lens as normal. Somewhere along the line, unbeknown to me, it has opened. All these issues suggest the lamp has reached its "End of Life", although previously it was nowhere near it. I read a review posted (on Amazon) by another purchaser, who described exactly the same problem as I had, and purchased a new lamp and it resolved his problem.
I would be grateful if anyone out there can suggest what the issue might be and how to rectify it. Thank you.. IP

This probably isn't the right forum to discuss the x9 but I am 99.9% sure that you have a ballast board failure problem that plagued the DLA-X* series. What you describe is exactly what happened to my x7 and many other X* series JVC projectors. If you are technically handy then you can replace the board yourself. There is a Youtube video on it but it is quite involved. I repaired my x7 after purchasing a board form the USA (the authorised JVC UK repair specialist would not supply me with the board) but I have been repairing all types of computers and electrical equipment all my working life so I had no problem doing it. Google is your friend with this one.

As already noted, very likely a ballast issue, there is plenty of threads about it, more about the X3- X30 they are the same projector as the X9 except a bit of software and a extra iris.

Thank you very much gentlemen, for your replies. MarkBow says there is a YouTube video for this;dont suppose you have an html link for it do you? I would certainly be grateful for any pointers to obtaining the ballast board and any technical tips. I am reasonably handy, but whilst I replaced a transistor in a Yamaha Sound bar a couple of years ago, I am not sure that replacing such an item in such a complex bit of kit, is within my abilities! The Expression "Swannee and Paddles" comes to mind!! ;-) Is there any way we could communicate on the Dog n Bone Mark, since you have already carried out this process?

Hello again Mark! Just wondered whether you had had a chance to view my earlier post this afternoon, following your most helpful comments about my JVC X9 Projector issues. I did ask you (in that generalised post) whether you had an html link for the "How to Video" on YouTube. I have since then tried to find this (or anything relating to the repair job,) but cannot locate it. I did see some places on eBay selling ballast boards in the USA and they seem to be quite inexpensive, although the shipping costs are almost as much! However, I have no idea which board it might be, not having any detailed part no info for this. I really would be grateful for any such info if you can spare the time to send it to me so I can decide whether to tackle the job myself or not!

Delivery was free but I did have to pay VAT to customs although I am VAT registered so that wasn't problem for me.
I am trying to find the 'How to' with photos and videos that I read on the WEB before I repaired mine a couple of years ago but I am struggling to find it now. I will keep looking in some old WEB bookmarks that I made. Just like @JamesBaby has said, there is plenty of information about the ballast board problems on the forums and other places if you search for it. The x3, x7 and x9 have the same ballast board and had issues. They are known as the RS40, RS60 and RS60 in the USA so searching for ballast problems on them will also bring up plenty of information. I am not sure if later models had the same problem.

I still have the faulty ballast board and couldn't see any faults with it. I do intend getting checked by a micro electronics engineer at some point.

Thanks very much for that Mark..Strangely enough I had already found that spares website you quoted here. The dreaded VAT always spoils the show doesnt it, but as you are VAT registered that makes it easier and cheaper for you I guess.
Just had a shuftie at the Fixya link you sent. Exactly the same problem I encountered ,but this guy who fixed his himself,(Deepz?) obviously knew what he was doing, like yourself. I think, on the face of it, I shall have to resort to sending the PJ to the Vets, to fix. I can see a bunch of problems en route to the ballast board and probably on the way back! Sometimes one has to admit where one's limits are! It'll be costly, but it seems to me to be better than having to send a bunch of bits to the Vets and saying "sort this out for me" ! At least it should then work properly..🤔 !
If you do happen to come across the Youtube Link though, I would like to be able to watch it for myself just to see if the "How To" instructions make it look easier than it sounds!!

There is quite a few connectors and cables to take out and put back in, not a job most people will jump into.

If you cant fix it yourself ill recommend you go find a used low hour JVC X500 or alike its cheaper than the repair, and a significantly better projector.

When its apart you should also take out the lamp engine and get it all cleaned up, they normaly build up a significant amount of dirt inside.

Thank you for that Stridsvognen! I think you just confirmed my decision to send my X9 to the vets! That is a minefield of potential jigsaw-puzzle type mantraps and pitfalls! I dont know about the X500 model, but I shall stick with my familiar X9 which is a a fantastic projector, or was, in its day! An upgrade to up-to-date 4K models like the N7, will cost a heck of a lot more, desirable as it is! BW, IP

The X500 is kind of the same projector just updated lamp lamp blower ballast, and comes with higher native contrast, so ull get quite a bit higher calibrated contrast with a X500, reason im surgesting one of those is the lamps last longer, they calibrate better, and cost about the same as a ballast repair.

I have a JVC DLA-X5900BE 4K projector, upon switch the projector on the following happens, The warning and Standby Lights are RED, the middle light 'Lamp' is flashing Amber. Please advise a st the projector is not switching 'ON'. thanks

Highly likely a lamp failure. Unlikely but possible on that particular machine is a faulty ballast.
