    According to the Euro1080TV website:

"The display format Euro1080 has chosen to use for HDTV is 1920 pixels x 1080 lines @ 50 hertz "

On this basis, can anyone say whether or not it will be possible for the JVC 30000U to record these transmissions?

    Thanks
    Nick

I am not familiar with the JVC30000u ; I know its a DVCR capable of HD recording.
We could tell you more if you gave us a link to its specifications perhaps.
Also, I suspect it will be HDCP aware - so you may find this stops you recording content for which you don't have official rights.
Certainly I have heard of this happening with HD content sent OTA by Dish Network in the USA.
I can record (and playback) ok via a PC hard=disk and via a CD-ROM with no problems.

1080i 50Hz is part of the ATSC specification, so the JVC 30K should be able to record the programming OK.

Hopefully HDCP flags will not be sent with the transmissions, as it is not in America.

Many people have used the 30K to record HD programming on channels such as HBO, Showtime and HDNET.

Nick, early versions of the JVC 30k are reported to have been problematic. The issue is extensively discussed on the US version of these forums - I think it's called the AVS Forum.

The only problems I know about are with drop outs. I had loads of these until I got hold of the official tape head cleaner. My JVC now works perfectly.

Do you mean that there are problems specifically related to recording?

    Hi,

The JVC 30K and 40K only have composite, S-video and iLink inputs - no component or DVI. Would future European HD sat receivers have iLink outputs (like some Samsungs in the US) to allow digital recordings? The currently announced Smart Imperator has a DVI output which would be good for my plasma, but not so good for recording. :(

Nick, I forget exactly what the problems were. But there seemed to be a lot of them according to the avs forums threads! The reason I was looking was that I was thinking of buying one - but all the complaints made me pause. May I ask where you got yours from?
Forgot to add that all the avs stuff is in the "HD Recorders" section. Makes very interesting reading.

I've seen all the AVS stuff too.

If you don't have one yet, you might as well go for the 40K which looks like it might be more reliable, has dts and 1080 menus.

Gordon got hold of mine for me.

I believe there is also a site: www.crtprojectors.co.uk, that sells them.

I'd imagine that a good dealer could get one from JVC Pro in the UK.

JVC Pro UK are currently awaiting for CE certification on the 30k and 40k D-Theatre D-VHS decks. When they have been cleared they will be available to dealers from Marata Vision, along with the rest of the JVC projector range who we are UK home cinema distributors for.

If you would like any further info on any of them feel free to ask.

If the ('official' UK, CE certified) JVC 40K does arrive in the UK, will it play the NTSC D-Theater tapes and also record analog PAL?

From what I know it will only do what the US model does.

More on it when I know.

    An update:

My demo 40000 is due in today (or failing that very early next week). I have been given a preliminary date of 4 weeks from noew for finalising the CE bits.

I will keep this thread upto date as and when I hear more news.

That'll be something I'll be finding out. I think they were used over at the IBC, where they had the 1080 test broadcasts.

    I shall find out.

    Update:

    My JVC SR-VD400U arrived today.

It is fitted with a 220/240v PSU, so that's quite useful. Not had much time to play with it yet though.

It is Region 1/EC (East Coast) set for the D-Theater tapes, of those of you who wanted to know.

More on it when I have time to play. :D

It's at least a good thing the region is set properly:)

Hopefully it can output 1080i/50Hz too ...

Apparently the Marantz MV8300 would support 1080i/50 but unfortunately it will not be sold in Europe:(

surely the 40k will only output NTSC and therefore handle 1080i/60hz. I dont see JVC producing a new machine for Europe somehow..

The VD400U that we have at work is essentially a 40000 but the Pro version, with a few extra bits that won't affect the standard home end user. The only difference between the US version and the one we have is that ours is fitted with a UK/EU 220/240v PSU.

I have no details on the final spec of the CE certified unit that will be available for sale yet, but the VD400 will be on 'show' at The Event II.
