This movie, about a 600 year old war between vampires and Lycans (Werewolves to you and I) didn't really appeal to me as I'm not a big fan of the genre. But a couple of friends told me it was supposed to be good so, with a couple of days off work and no missus at home (who would never sit down with me to watch this type of movie anyway) I stuck it in the player and settled back to watch it.

It turned out to be a highly polished, intelligent and entertaining movie. Certainly one of, if not the best movie of it's type I've seen. The characters are well thought out, some good casting (Kate Beckinsale is stunning in black pvc and Bill Nighy is truly menacing as Viktor, the vampire leader), and very good visual effects.

One I would certainly recommend, even to "non-believers" like myself.

I thought it was ok, but it definitely wasn't a disk I was going to keep once I'd watched it. I actually found the acting to be a bit 'hammish' in parts and the plot was very contrived.

I don't really understand the 'intelligent' comment either, as it didn't really contain anything new.

Did anyone notice the obvious reusing of CGI too? Just changed the backgrounds.

I thought it was an intelligent twist on the old Vampire/Werewolf thing. You know, each side using guns to wage their war on the other. I hadn't seen it done before and I just kind of liked the idea. Also the "interracial" marriage and subsequent conception, when I never thought the "undead" could bring life into the world. That sort of thing. Intelligent in a way. I thought.
