What a load of toss. I thought, great one of my favourite childhood comic strips brought to life. I turned it off halfway through it was that bad.

And the eye candy, whose name I can't remember but both my wife and I thought she said it was Electric Nacho, what was that all about?

Glad I missed it at the cinema. A definite miss when it's released on dvd. :thumbsdow

Well, I've just watched the R4 version and I have to admit
I quite enjoyed it. For such a dark film, the picture quality was
superb and the sound design made full use of the 5.1 channels.
I listened to the dts track and, at times, the sound was amazing.
Ok, the film doesn't deserve any awards and comic strip adaptations have been done a lot better but I still found it to
be entertaining enough. I thought that Colin Farrell was
excellent in an OTT sort of way but I wasn't too impressed with
Michael Clark Duncan who wasn't menacing enough IMO.
As for Ben Affleck, I think he played the part quite well although
I've never liked him as an actor.
I'd give the film 6/10 but the picture quality and dts soundtrack deserve 9/10.

was going to buy this but was warned off it! i think the next crime fighter caper to look forward to will be artisans/marvel ,s THE PUNISHER, which by all accounts will be identicle to the comics , and not in anyway related to dolph lundgrens movie.

Just finished watching this, I guess the story line was a little suspect, which is about par for the type of movie. However as a visual and aural feast its pretty awesome. It probably doesn't look that great in the average display and maybe awful on some, but on a well calibated CRT projector its about as good as it gets. :smashin:

    Film 6.5/10
    Picture 9/10
    Sound 9/10

So there you have it folks. As long as a movie has "great picture and sound" it doesn't matter if the actual movie is pants - buy it anyway!

And although I agree that nobody actually said that, so what if they did? I would imagine that about 50% of any top ten DVD demo list of films would be sub-par films - Phantom Menace, U-571, Fast & The Furious, The Haunting, Pearl Harbour, etc...

When I said the story line is a little suspect, that is exactly what I meant. I wasn't saying the film was pants. In fact it turned out to be better than I was expecting. Also I am able to enjoy a film purely for its audio and video merits, its a bit like listening to a CD, good lyrics are nice but the be all and end all.

There we are michaelm, I just thought that I'd add that little bit you left out. Your not a tabloid editor by any chance are you?:D
As juboy said, there are many films that are enhanced enormously
by good sound design and visuals. I scored the film 6/10 but
because of the excellent sound and picture quality then I would
    score the overall package 8/10.

No you didn’t but they still did not say what said they said. They only said the quality of the DVD was good and the story more or less wasn’t.

if you are watching a dvd with a projector or a plasma its very very important for the quality too be good - else it can be distracting. I too have movies in my collection that are their not because of their story or the quality of acting but for the visuals and sound.

Actually, their aren't many good action movies /science fiction at all with quality acting and a good story anyway....

Just finished watching it and it was a good bit better than I thought it was going to be. Ben Affleck I thought would rob the movie of any soul (I hated Pearl Harbor) but I was pleasantly surprised. Michael Clarke Duncan was poor as Kingpin.

As for the sound/visuals, I thought the picture was pretty well defined with some nice colours and plenty of detail. The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is good but it's pipped to the post by the DTS 5.1 track as the DTS track seemed to have a better defined soundfield and I thought there was better bass presence from the LFE channel.

Check out the scene where the young Matt wakes up in hospital and hears the drops from the drip machine.

    Pretty nice methinks..

Shame they did not use the mask as in the comics as in some scenes it made him look to have chubby chops. I hope they get it sorted for the next one I have heard they are planning.

Oh yeah? And what about the picture and sound then? Surely that alone has to be worth buying it for? Haven't you learnt anything from this thread?

    Wow. Great.

I buy films because they have great picture and sound.

Doesn't matter if the film is garbage- hey as long as it has good picture and sound.

hmmm looks like I said exactly the same thing as a previous poster.:D

Just like Harvey Dent in the first Batman, and now I have heard they are to make Catwoman black as well as Halle Berry has mooted to be in line for the role.

She wasn’t in the normal Batman or Detective Comics which came long before Year One. Also she wasn’t in her own series Catwoman. That was a one off not unless you count Ertha Kitt.

Does it matter? What year were the normal batman and detective comics released?
