Some might remember that I asked for some R2 recommendations but there wasn't much of interest for me (but thanks for your suggestions and effort nevertheless) so I asked my buddy to bring me the above only plus the July and August edition of the HCC mag. He actually confused on with the "Essential Home Cinema" mag as they use a similar front page layout and label - very confusing indeed. (Sue them!)

Back to the movie: in case you didn't know that's Michael Mann's TV version of "Heat", starring some lesser known actors.
The DVD shows typical TV origins, i.e. it's presented in 4:3 and Dolby Surround only (carried within a DD 2.0 track) while the picture quality is, let's just say, not that impressive as it's very grainy. As well it runs at appr. 95 minutes only.

The story is of course very similar to that of Heat but differs in some details, and more importantly, in the ending which I will not give away here.
I actually remembered it to be superior to Heat which I saw first at the cinema (and found it a bit slow) but now I have to revert my opinion.
I have watched Heat a few times on DVD and find it more entertaining and better than it's original.
Luckily the DVD of L.A. Takedown was quite reasonable at GBP9.90, and it remains interesting as a comparision.

    **1/2 out of 5
