    Hi All
Well today I took the plunge and went to P&A Audio in Liverpool and bought a Rega PL2.
    I also got a Pro-Ject Phono Box E preamp.

I was going to get it from Lineone audio but they are closed today.

Now I need to make room for it and it probably won't be ready to play
    anything until tomorrow (Tuesday)

Thanks to everyone for the help and input in helping me decide which
    one to get.
As promised I will come back after I have listened to something and let you know
    How it sounds.

Have fun. Worth checking the alignment of the cartridge and also the weight and anti skate settings before you play anything. I suppose these should have been set up at the factory so the cartridge position should be close but worth checking the balance weight setting and anti skate anyway.

First job it to check the arm is parallel with the record when in the playing position, then the deck should come with a protractor for head alignment next unlocking the weight (probably with an allen key) wind it out until the arm just floats horizontal, set the weight scale to zero and then wind it in the amount for your cartridge (usually 1.5 to 2.0 turns = grams downward force), lastly set the antiskate to the same setting as the weight. This is not a definitive guide but will get you going pretty well.

    Hope this helps and enjoy.

To be honest I have not opened the box yet so I don't know what comes with it.
It will probably be tomorrow before I can get into it but I will
definately refer back to your comments when I set it up.

New turntable now set up and working.
I've never had so many adjustments to make but I am just about sorted.
Levelling the deck is a pain and I really should spend a bit more time
getting it better but its ok for now.

Getting the tone arm to balance properly is an art in itself but again after a couple of hours
    its done.
The sound is superb listening on headphones I can hear things I didn't hear on the cd it seems to take me closer to the sound without distorting anything.

I have connected the output of the Pro-Ject phone box E to the inputs on my Focusrite
Pro14 Audio interface and it works fine.

I do have the option to change the Pro14 inputs to Line via its software mixer (I am using the Instrument Inputs for now) and it sounds ok.

Overall very pleased and it can only get better so now to find some bargain LP's.

Don't know where you are in the country but there are record fairs springing up all over the place at the moment plus have a trawl round your local charity shops but remember condition is everything.

Congratulations on your purchase. As well as record fairs, which can be great fun try setting up an account on Discogs.

    Thanks for the replies.
I have looked ar Discogs and bookmarked it.

It looks like an auction site but I didn't have time to look round.
    I will go back later.

I will check out the charity shops I am between Preston and Southport.

Its not an auction site, set prices for records new and old. Grading is normally pretty accurate.

Check discogs then check ebay to see if its any cheaper.

Personally i use discogs for my purchases. Never had a problem with any sellers

As I said I haven't had much time to look round the site but I did see
    a couple of interesting items.
Will spend more time on it later.
    Thanks for the clarification.

Thats debatable. Ive never had a record graded correctly unless its brand new. As long as you accept what you are buying is probably a grade or two below what is advertised its ok.

Good mate, enjoy your system. But do note that it's not a good idea to use the instrument level input, because this engages the preamp on your focusrite, which expects a signal weaker that the signal that is coming in (you're putting 2 preamps on top of the signal). It's best to switch the focusrite to line level input regardless of how it sounds.

All sorted now playing on the Line inputs I can see the difference.
I didn't need to move the cables to the rear as the front inputs are also Line inputs
so I have moved them back to the front and now I can make up the volume
    using the front controls.
