Hey guys, after a lot of time of viewing this area of the forums i finaly decided to take the plunge a day or so ago and i bought the SP46 off the Comet website and its coming this Sunday :D Cant wait for it to arrive ! will try and get some pictures when its all set up properly, from what ive heard and seen its a lovely set!

P.s on a small note, was thinking of connecting it up to my PC (DVI - HDMI), just wondered if any would recomend some websites which are reliable (and perhaps some manufacturers of decent cable) ?

Check out the Cable Power Buys on these very forums.

A guy called Mark supplies some of the finest cables known to humankind - seriously. Service is superb as well. :smashin:

Also discounts for Forum members.

I agree the_pauly's comments on hand made and top of the range cables if you can:)hiya: ) but otherwise try http://www.tvcables.co.uk as also suggested by Starfleet - the IXOS are good IMHO.:smashin: Cheers:hiya:

Deejah,

My dad got this telly and a £20 cable from Maplin, the PC picture is superb and playing games on it is out of this world.

Then again, an £80 cable may be even better.....who knows!

Good Luck.

I found very little of use on this before I jumped. There are some threads on DIY (search HTPC in the threads) and I read reviews in PC-Pro of the market leaders (£1200-£1500 and too expensive for me) but then saw the Advent at PC-World with a top spec and a not too unpleasent price (£999). There are others +-£100 but I am hppy with my choice.:)

Microsfot offer the following advice at http://www.wmvhd.com/ which may help too.:smashin:

System Requirements
Because of the processor-intensive requirements of high definition video, you need a powerful Windows XP-based PC to get the best experience.
[IMG]Minimal Configuration
(Play 720p video)
Microsoft Windows XP
Windows Media Player 9 Series
2.4 GHz processor or equivalent
384 MB of RAM
64 MB video card
1024 × 768 screen resolution
16-bit sound card
Speakers
[IMG]Optimum Configuration
(Play 1080p video with 5.1 surround sound)
Microsoft Windows XP
Windows Media Player 9 Series
DirectX 9.0
3.0 GHz processor or equivalent
512 MB of RAM
128 MB video card
1920 × 1440 screen resolution
24-bit 96 kHz multichannel sound card
5.1 surround speaker system

Cheers:hiya:

His website is the tip of the iceberg. Send him an e-mail via the thread in the Cables forum. He will custom make virtually anything that is possible to make.
The point is that Mark's cables are top of the range but at far from top of the range prices. My Belden component cable cost £50 and has outperformed every cable I've tested it against (5 to date, including a £90 Ixos cable) and all of them pricier than the Belden.

Is the SP46 good via component? If I take the plunge with this set, I'll most likely just use the component input (via an Arcam AVR300).

I'm currently torn between the SP46 and SP50. I have yet to see the SP46 in action, but the SP50 is most impressive. Is it worth the extra £500 though?

Cheers :smashin:

Yes mate - stunning through component. A noticeable step up from even top quality SCART leads.

That's good to hear a I have the SP46 on the way (though I didn't think there would be a problem after looking at the SP50). My Xbox 360 will be plugged in via component (due to there being no HDMI for the 360...booo!) but I guess I could use the VGA cable if I had to.
Anyway, counting the days... With no tv at the moment I'm getting a bit :suicide: At least I've rediscovered radio now...

Starfleet,

You have a couple of options: -

1. Buy yourself a cheap DVD player with a HDMI output. Samsung DVD-HD850 for example.
2. Buy a JS Technology RGB (SCART) to Component converter.

The sensible money is probably on the HDMI DVD player as one can be picked up for £100 or less.

Cheers
