Hello, in my room I have been running the onkyo 606 with q acoustics 1010i and they are excellent, I run these at around the 45 volume mark for movies and around 33 for gaming.

Just installed in my brothers place a 608 with Boston acoustics xs speakers and obviously I can see the speakers are much smaller, but I am having to run these at around 70 volume for movies and 45 for gaming, quite a massive hike, both room are roughly the same size.

Just wanted to check if this sounds about right?

Oh and just to add, both are passing through bitstream audio, the 606 via hdmi 1.3 and the 608 via hdmi 1.4.

Just seems odd thinking of playing these things at that high a volume just to make it a decent experience, the Boston Accoustics got some excellent reviews and they do sound good at that volume.

I suspect it's all down to the Bostons being less sensitive...harder to drive / less efficient basically.

The QA are rated at 89db, 1 watt at 1 metre.....The Bostons are rated 85db.

I could be wrong but I think this is why you're having to pump up the jam on the bostons;)

Providing the amp's got plenty of power this shouldn't be an issue, in fact a lot of nice speakers are harder to drive..Spendor, Dynaudio....

All the best

Ok, thanks, just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a blatant setting somewhere, just set it up using the auto calibration then reducing the rears to 80hz.

Just in my setup volume at 70 would get me arrested. :rotfl:

The satelite speakers on the Bostons only go down to 150 HZ so you should have the crossover in the amp set to 150Hz and not 80Hz. If you have it set to 80Hz then you will be missing out on some frequencies.

Ah right, they were 150hz after audyessey setup but read some threads that thought the rears were too over bearing, they were on mine for sure.

Changing the frequency will not change the overbearing nature of the rears. If you want to reduce the volume at the rear you need to lower the speaker levels by a few dB within the amp menu.
