I have just received the new Sony catalogue, as I was waiting to see what the replacement for the fx66 was like. It is the kv-32fq70 (as stated in other threads) . It has the same spec as the fx66, but in the fq80 case.

All this is a bit of a waste of time, as during the wait for the catalogue, I have been reading all the threads about the various problems and yesterday went and ordered a Loewe Aventos 3981ZW. I just could not beleave the difference in the picture quality between the Sony and Loewe.

If any one else is the same as me, don't wait for the Sony, get the Loewe.

I`ve just ordered the same Loewe tv. It looks stunning. I was really confused reading this forum about which tv`s are the best. All I can say is get out and compare the tv`s in a good shop ie John Lewis.
I came away without a doubt the Loewe tv`s looks clean and sharp in both design and picture quality.

I`ve been holding off going to 100hz because every tv i`d seen looked like it was playing back a vcd. The loewe tv`s are the first 100hz tv`s that actually look like a big improvement over 50hz.

where did you get the sony catalogue from?

btw - i think that aventos stand looks 'ok' - would have been better if it had been the exact width of the tv i think

    cheers

The list price of the Aventos with the new stand is £1249, I don't think you can get the stand on it's own. The cheapest that I found the Aventos for on the web was £900 without stand at http://www.tvandvideodirect.com .

I have ordered mine from Rayleigh HiFi, a local specialist HiFi dealer. I could have got it cheaper, but I know if there are any problems they will be sorted out asap. I also got 5 years warrenty, free delivery and set up.

I don't mine paying that bit extra for the service I know I will get.

You really must try and compare the Sony with the Loewe. With all the digital processing off on the Loewe I think the picture was still better than the Sony, my own oppion I know.

Just saw (Fri) the FQ70 on display right next to the Aventos in a shop called Stuart Westmoreland (in Loughborough, Leics).
The Aventos looked superior in pretty much every aspect, especially sharpness and detail.
The Sony looked very soft by comparison.
Pity about the Aventos' stand tho'.

Saw the fq70 in John Lewis on Saturday. Despite 10 minutes of fumbling around, they failedto find any way of turning the 100Hz down to 50.

Can I assume that this is in fact is because it cannot switch to 50Hz, unlike the fx66?

I've just checked the Sony caralogue and don't think you can change the fq70 to 50hz. I didn't think you could on the fx66 either, but I'm probley wrong.

As far as I know the FQ70 cannot switch to 50hz & the FX66 definitely will not switch to 50hz.

To my knowledge the only Sony set that will do that is the FQ80 but don't quote me!

I have seen the fq80 do it, but I know there is another one which does as well. Thought it was the fx66, but I guess not.
