Just bought the Samsung LE40R87BDX - have I made a good decision?

Hi I took the plunge after the Sony 40S2530 went up in price (is the LE40R87BD a match for this Sony?) and ordered a Samsung LE40R87BDX!!

My budget was (as cheap as I could!! ;) about £850 for the TV, I also ordered a Piano Black glass and chrome stand that I had seen which looked cool in Comet and Dixons, all came in under £1000

I was torn between getting the older Sammy LE40R74 it was about in total £200 cheaper, so my question is was an extra £218 I paid worth it for the newer Samsung model, and a 3 year warranty over the 1 year I would have got with the R74?

Does the gaming mode work for Xbox 360 gaming in these or is it a gimmick.
thanks

Any comments please?

ha ha ha yeh I guess your right!! :)

I would just love to hear from other people on this TV thats all, there's no info or reviews on the net about it, thats why I was nervous about getting this one

In your opinion though about the extr £218 for a 3 year and a newer generation what you think?

The R87/R88 have just been released this month.

Can you confirm the model please, is it only on PC use you get this? what about TV watchin gplease?

cheers

Picked one up today, price matched at Currys. I couldn't fault Currys, they had no idea what I was on about with regards to the panel, but let me check & I got myself a S-PVA! Very helpful lady & manager. Was told I could bring it back if it wasn't the right panel! (Coventry).
I've not started tweaking it yet, but so far I'm impressed. VGA seems a little washed out with Xbox 360, but then it did on my previous Samsung.

How much did you end up paying then please? Are you not going to use your 360 using component? thats what I was planning with the stock cable.

Also have you tried the gaming mode? whats it like?

Hen you say you checked your panel 1st, was the 1st one you come to a S-PVA? do you think that was luck or ost likely all the 40" will be S-PVA?

I've always used VGA with 360. I like the slightly subdued picture. I sarted a thread for owners to share settings and problems.

Currys price matched their website so got it for £849.99, instore price was £999.99
Not really tried game mode, it seemed to make the picture over component quite dull, to be honest I've not really explored the settings too much. I'm letting it settle in for a bit first.

Is this a norm? ie a LCD needs time on displaying pictures for the panel to "run in" ?

Empire Direct have it for £780 now you know? or did you want to pick it up? (you must have a huge car!!)

I will look at that link when I get mine

I wasn't really going to buy, just look. I realise I could've got it online cheaper, but as they had the SPVA panels, I didn't mind paying the extra to get the panel I wanted first time. It actually fitted in the back of a Punto with room to spare!

God I hope mine is a S-PVA then now, wouldnt have had a clue otherwise. is it that much of a difference? was is the differnece? better blacks or somehing?

why did you pick the R88/R87 then? as in currys and stuff they have the R74 going cheap or did you wamt a next gen LCD TV thats why I did, for a little extra a new model TV?

Have you tried Movie Plus? does it make it smoother? no motion blur etc on a normal DVD fast action movie?

Any pics you can post?

I don't think there's been any reports on here of the 40"ers with a different sticker on the back. :rotfl:
