I have just taken posession [ wrestled the courier to the ground to prise it from his hairy hands ] of a Pioneer DV-656a from LE Concepts as my old Wharfedale 750 is having trouble reading discs.

It will be connected to a Marantz SR5200, powering a 5.1 set of Dali Blue speakers and I was wondering if there are any tips for setting this player up and getting the most from it. TV is a 29" nicam Sony.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Only tip is to actually, wait for it, read the manual as you go along.

Just plugging the thing in will NOT necessarily give you the best picture quality, sound etc.

Take your time and it'll repay you

Took me 15 minutes from end to end including configuring all the sounds options for CD/SACD/DVD-A.

    Good luck. :smoke:

    Cheers

OK, so I just plugged it in! :D

Yep, there's quite a difference between this and my old player. The 'wow' factor will be done with shortly so I'll get to grips with all the setup then.

You can't blame me though. ;)

    Thanks,

    Jon

No, can't blame you, did the same thing :D

Then went back using the manual to set it all up better and get some extra WOW.

    Cheers

having got a 656 a few months back my only tip is to get hold of some tops notch DVDs, Heat, Saving Private Ryan and LOTT spring to mind and play them VERY loud

The first DVD I put in was the BalRog scene in LotR
This morning I shall try [amongst others] Nine Inch Nails "All That Could Have Been" DTS.

I like this player alot, especially the graphics of the onscreen menus.

Funny enough the Balrog scene was the first thing I played on my 656! The shootout in Heat is the tops also as is the first 30 mins of Private Ryan
