So I've just received a second hand wii u which I bought off eBay. I didn't buy new as the pricing seems a bit steep at the moment.

Anyway, it turns out that the wii u has a parental pass code lock on which I can't get access to, and a Nintendo ID that I can't remove or change. I emailed the seller who said he was a trader so he didn't have the passcode.

I phoned Nintendo customer support who were very helpful and are sending me out a postage label for me to send the wii u in and they will remove the account from it, and send it back to me, all free of charge.

It seems like a bit of a faff to send it off for a week or so to remove the account, so I was wondering, what would I be gaining by sending it off? I gather that I would lose any previously purchased games? Also are there any security issues with it being linked to another email address? Ie can I buy stuff from the store safely or will the previous owner receive emails about my purchases?

Thanks to any one with any knowledge!

Apparently not, I read online that is what happens, but when I phoned I was told it needed to be sent away. Maybe it's because I said that I had bought the Wii u secondhand? I probably should have just said I had locked myself out of my Wii.

I might try phoning them again tomorrow and see what happens.

No I've explored all of that already thanks. I'm asking what are the benefits and cons on me sending it off. Is there any real point?

Can you add a new Nintendo ID onto the system?
If no, then there is a con as you're stuck with using the existing one on the machine.

No can't add an ID, I've linked it to my 3ds so my mii and user name appear. I suppose I should send it in when the label arrives.

Yep, unless you can convince them to send you the master key :)
