I've just bought a Kef 30b sub for £200 fro Hyperfi, wasn't able to get a good demo in the shop so I risked it based on What hi fi review and the fact that I needed somthing small and didn't want to pay £500 for q150e.

However i'm a little underwhelmed at the moment, I don't seem to be getting much out of it. Do I need to run it in like conventional speakers and should I set the crossover frequency at its lowest point (I have 601's) and how do youdecide whst the volume should be.

Also if I use just the one phono lead is it as good as a 1 to 2 cable

    Hope someone can shed light.

subwoofers need to be run in just like any other speaker. Set the crossover to it's highest point and let the amp handle the bass management.

set the volume on the sub to about half and then use the amp to increase or decrease bass further. When you can hear the subwoofer turn the volume down a bit until you can no longer hear it.

Thanks, do think things will improve quite a bit after a run in?

Does anyone else have this sub who can tell me what I should expect.

I was expecting it to be a big step up from my Yamaha sw80 but so far it is not the case.

A friend of mine bought this sub some years ago and paid a lot more than you did. Its a good little sub. Better than Canadian makes.

I did look at the Paradigm's but to be honest to me they look
cheap. and I didn't want it sat next to my lovely expensive apollo
AV stand - i'm a bit picky like that probably to my disadvantage. The
kef does look good though - I hope it will sound better with time &
    running in
