And the seamless layer change works a treat, even on The Fifth Element!!! I tested this first before I bought it MR for £449 in town.

Picture and sound is great and surprisingly good and very detailed with CD.

    Very solid build.

It's nice to have a DVD player again having only got a E50 DVD recorder with less options.

    Will try for ya.

    Which one, 1 or 2?

    First Hope was faultless btw.

Can I play a SACD/DVD-A disc via the stereo phono out, in stereo of course and would it sound better than CD?

    :)

Do you mean the layer change and what does yours do?

What about the sound quality and stereo playback of SACD/DVD-A?

Yes you can play SACDs & DVD-As in 2 channel, just select the 2 chanel option in the disc's set-up menu

Is that by using the phono stereo out to a tv/amp skts, or the front phono out of the the 5.1 phono out skts?

    :)

Not familiar with your DVD player, however it should have phono-ous for 5.1 and also for 2 channel out. If you use the two channel out you'll get a mix down of any 5.1 tracks. Again, however, you should be able to choose the 2.0 track from either the player set-up menu or each individual disc menu.

As for you pre/pro I would imagine that the dedicated 5.1 inputs will by-pass the internal DACS whereas the other phono will go through the Yamaha's DACS. Try using both and see what sounds best

I tried the R2 Spidey disc this evening on my DVD-2900 and any layer change was completely seamless. As the 2200 has the same video circuitry as the 2900 then I'd expect it to be the same (ie. perfect).

Performance wise I can't fault it on anything yet, although the remote is an odd shape.

Sorry, haven't tried Spidey yet, I'll have to rent it out again.

I've just watched Butterfly Effect. The sound made me jump out of my skin twice at the begining. No layer change. What a weird film.

What do you think to the remote?

The 2200 is now discontinued on the Denon site and the new one's are up.

Snap - I watched the same film last night and the sound had be clean off the sofa on more than one occasion. The Director's Cut ending was very dark and I really enjoyed it, despite reservations about anything with Ashton Kutcher in it. No layer change here either, which was nice.

I think the remotes on the 2200/2900 are the same but to be honest I don't use mine anyway as I have a cheapo Marantz learning remote instead.

Yes, they are the same remote, designer look I suppose.

But the performance of this players sound is awsome, especially from CD. I've listened to 25 odd already and they sound completely different with new instruments I've not heard before. Not had chance to watch many DVD's yet, @ 2 hrs long each as well.

Not had a CD player before as I still rate Vinyl and haven't got around to affording the Rega Planet CD player I'd like. So I'm well impressed with this Denon.

My R1 Virus DTS sound skips though. It's the only R1 I've got luckily. I think I read it's down to a R1 DTS firmware bug as R1 Alien does it on the Denon's apparently. R2 has superior pic to me anyway.

I'm trying out Sting DTS CD now to make sure it's not the DTS decoder in the Denon. Great 5.1 surround DTS CD and sounds amazing as well, unbelievable!

Which Marantz learning remote have you got?

    This one

Does the job with all my kit and is backlit. Not a fan of touchscreen remotes as my anal tidiness results in me getting stressed about fingerprints on the screen

Watched Madonna Drowned World Tour Concert in US R2,3,4,5,6 DVD DTS and that had 1 sound drop out @ 22mins but then was ok. I played it again to 25mins and nothing  .

Just watched Predator as well, R2 DTS and that was faultless all the way through, phew. I could really see the improvement in picture and sound with this, having watched it a few times.

I've not really been looking for problems, as I wasn't expecting any. I've really enjoyed listening to music and watching a few DVD's. They're a joy to watch without looking out for the layer change in the middle of the film.

Just watched a scratched rented Fifth Element. The picture froze briefly at one point but the sound carried on. It didn't do this on my E50, so I assume the 2200 is more fussy about scratches, or it's something to do with the buffer.

None of the players are perfect I've had, though this could be, if it was the Fifth Element disc and bad R1 firmware on Virus, apart from the remote.

My E50 has crashed quite a few times, once at an Extras Menu on a DVD, plus it shows up the dreaded layer change.

How long have you had the 2900 and have you had any problems, big or small, especially DTS playback, with playing DVD's?

I want to double check mine is ok with you.

I've had mine since July and haven't had any trouble with any discs, DTS or DD. I played a disc in very poor condition last night and it didn't miss a beat.
