The insurance company (and I'll name them now because they've been phenomenal - Aviva) have confirmed they're not sending anyone out, they've asked me to take damaged goods to the tip and they don't want to see any photos or receipts for anything other than the handful I sent for the 2 main TVs. They've sent me cash for stuff I haven't even replaced yet, and everything I'd added to the claim along the way is not questioned at all.
I assume there's some sort of limit before they get more thorough but I'm a good few grand into this now and it's like going to a cash machine without a PIN. Unbelievable.

Maybe they are wary of certain people that appear to be taking the pee, but for me it's no questions asked, because I haven't. I could've easily asked for a new Nintendo Switch but because I've told them the console itself is fine, and it's only the dock and adapter damaged, they've sent me £79.99 to replace that. I assume requests like that show that you're generally fairly honest in your claim.

Daft question are you sure you only have £10k worth of cover? The reason I ask is I had forgotten to try Aviva and wanted to check whether they were cheaper, particularly given your recommendation.

On the new quote I got, which wasn't cheaper there was no way to specify the amount of contents. After finally seeing it under premium breakdown it turns out it was unlimited cover for both contents and buildings.

If the policy has been taken out recently, could that be the same in your case?

Mine, online, states Unlimited Building, £10,000 Contents.

    It's about £25 a month (£300 a year) for a 4 bed semi in the south east.

It's like Christmas in my house. Picked up 3 new Panasonic TVs today, new Nintendo dock just delivered. Power shower & Sky Q ordered.

I'm sure the kids will appreciate the extra 6 inches in the playroom(unfortunate turn of phrase). I'm thinking wall mounting again but a little bit lower this time, seeing as they're playing for plastering new Sky cables

My advice is get rid of your tv aerial for a start. Got shot of mine as it's totally redundant now with fibre broadband and Sky. Also, always disconnect your electrical appliances if you know there's a thunderstorm coming (they were well forecast!). Simple really.

What we have learned from the thread is: yes, keep all of your appliances connected to the main; what's more, install an aerial that will invite the lightning to your house. That way, you get a free update on all of your equipment :)

Just had to smash open one of the blu-ray players to salvage a Harry Potter disc.

Claiming instead so you can get the up-to-date 2017 version with all-knew work-outs, right?

    Now that's an idea!
Thought I'd try to get it out anyway, in case she eats too much on holiday. But it's got me foxed, it mounded all round. I may have to put Davina's life on the line with a direct snap attack View attachment 888601

Thanks for the heads up here, It was meant to have surge protection! Cannot remember where I got it from now but looking at the specs can see you are 100% correct!

Sorry OP should not have recommended this one and may have to look at another one myself!

I think my Nintendo switch might be buggered too after all. Got a new charger & although the little lightning icon appears when plugged in or docked, it doesn't actually charge the thing
