      Thanks for the review :smashin:

Looks like the visuals and sound is a step up in 4K by the review . Being one of my fave films to watch over and over again, i'm looking forward to seeing it.

I was worried the line from Dr. Ian Malcolm(Jeff Goldblum) was going to compare to this release, "That is one big pile of sh!t", i am glad it doesn't :D

Still can't get my 7 year old to watch it... She can't get past the guy being eaten by the velocoraptor at the beginning... Just goes to show leaving stuff to the imagination works wonders.

It unfortunate the UK only get the 3 movies in the box set, but the US get all 4. Has the image been remastered again or did they use the 3D remaster from a few years ago?

From what I've read on twitter the boxes are labelled as DV but there is no confirmation that they are actually encoded in DV.

Has anyone played the discs in Dolby Vision?

All 4 are available on iTunes for £18, in 4K HDR. I know it’s not quite the same, but it’s way cheaper than the 4K box set.

I can confirm that this isn’t in Dolby Vision even though all the ones I have, which are the Zoom steelbooks state that they are. The films all go directly to HDR10. I tried the Matrix which came a couple of days after & Despicable me which are Dolby vision & they work fine. 1. Surely this is false advertising & 2. Why hasn’t the reviewer of the disc picked this up, surely this is his job?

Not reviewed on a DV TV.

Say what you want about that, but that'd be the reason.

So the question to that then is why not? How can you give what should be a comprehensive review of everything the disc has to offer if he’s not even using the compatible equipment needed to be thorough? It’s a fair enough point to make & sloppy from my point of view to not even mention Dolby Vision, wether he’s got the equipment or not. The part about false advertising was regarding the disc packaging.

Simon doesn't say at any point he is reviewing the Dolby Vision version. However we are investing in suitable equipment to get Cas Dolby Vision compatible by the end of this week. We will also update reviews where they need to be updated.

True but i only mentioned because at the start of the review it states encoded with HDR and Dolby Vision which was incorrect and is why you have removed it.

This isn't the first time and it won't be the last time that the artwork for a home video release has listed inaccurate info, should it be fact checked before production of course but mistakes will happen.

And that’s my point. I’m not having a go, it’s constructive criticism for whoever let him review the disc without the correct equipment to do a full & comprehensive review in full, which he couldn’t do. The fact that people like myself & you (Phil) believed it was in Dolby Vision & it’s not could’ve got clarity on this with the review. It would be the same if people wanted to find out how good an Atmos sound track was based on the review, but the reviewer didn’t have an Atmos setup to give that opinion. I suppose if the disc did have DV and it worked is one thing, but the fact it states it has it but it seems as though it doesn’t should’ve been part of the review in mine & no doubt other people’s minds.

ironically @Phil Hinton i have just mentioned this on the matrix review thread! it would be great if we knew what equipment our reviewers were using. you have cleared that up by saying Cas is going to be DV ready by the end of the week. one of my other requests, was, can our reviewers expand on the implementation of DV as part of their reviews they do, which can be used as a reference point going forward?

(reading your response again actually youv'e answered that aswell lol

also does the usa version of jurassic park have DV? or indeed any other territory?

Reviewers mention in the picture sections what the equipment is they are reviewing on. It is quite a significant investment to get all the disc reviewers new equipment and it won't happen as quickly as we would like at times. I don't know about the US set, but @Steve Withers might have that set and could confirm here.

Watching the opening scenes. Good news. So far so good. Film grain is there. Looks very organic. Not razor sharp. Colours look natural. No sign of any halos. Very pleased with the transfer so far.

Sound is quite insane. Looks like this disc is worth owning for the sound.

In that regard then Phil, could you not let someone review a particular disc knowing that there equipment is up to the job to give a full picture/sound codec review instead of a part review because they don’t have the correct setup? I, as well as many others no doubt, always look to the forum reviews to make their mind up on certain purchases, but I do feel we’ve been left short on this particular review because of certain circumstances beyond maybe the reviewers control.

Cas will be DV ready by the end of this week. You must have missed that reply.
Simon will update when he can afford to. Those are my two disc reviewers. Steve doesn't review discs and neither do I, although we are both set up for all formats.

I saw the reply regarding Cas’ upgrade. So come the end of the week should any discs be Dolby Vision compatible, can they be reviewed by him solely & not Simon as this looks like the only way we are going to get a full & thorough review of the disc at hand. Have you tried your copy of JP yet Phil, & can you confirm your experiencing the non DV codec as well as myself?

Sounds like a bit of a mixed bag picturewise shame, as for no DV, I'm glad I can refer to reviews like this as a point of reference to check details!

That's useful info. Although from the review it sounds like one of the main advantages of this release is the immersive sound format which would be lacking in the itunes option, at least for now.

It is a mixed bag but this is much better than the previous releases.

2011 - had grain but sourced from a dated master filled with EE in many places
2013 - Dial-9 DNR and shocking amount of digital manipulation like airbrushing.
2018 - More film like as there is a slight layer of grain visible. Natural colours. Quite soft looking but the best JP has ever looked till date.

Just finished watching this. To my eyes this is the best its ever looked. I just wish they could go back and redo the vfx at a higher quality/resolution because on this transfer they are really starting to look their age.

Watched this over the weekend, one of my all time favourite movies and it has never looked so good. I think HDR really improves the image. No complaints from me, I think they did a great job.

For an amaray boxset it's actually quite nice, it's not overly flimsey (like the Hunger Games set for example) and it's got a nice rough feeling sheen finish to it which catches the light nicely

Saw the first one on Saturday evening after the football final.
Awesome and nice to watch this great movie in 4K.
1st one just the best, remember the gasps from the cinema audience back in 93.
      *Spared No Expense*

I will watch it again, you can never get bored :D
