Sony Pictures are looking to remake their 1995 box-office hit, Jumanji.

The original film starred Robin Williams, and a young Kirsten Dunst, which was directed by Joe Johnston (The Wolfman, Captain America: The First Avenger)

Producer Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) will shepherd the project along with the producers of the original, William Teitler & Ted Field.

Director Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape) is steering the reboot to the big screen.

I'd be up for this. Jumanji scarred my little sister for life, she won't even talk about it. I like to remind her of it now and again though  I think it was those freaky looking monkeys.

It's a fun movie & I doubt there'd be any of the usual 'Sacrilege! How dare they remake this classic!' stuff.

Some of the original cgi effects have dated quite badly. Hopefully the monkeys wont be as rubbish this time round (& they were rubbish back in 1995!).

    Zathura was awesome. :)

Robin Williams made the movie along with the CGI. Seeing how kids still watch the original, I just don't see the point. I was early 20's and loved it.

CGI might have moved on, but if they don't spend the cash on it, it will date even quicker this time round.

Totally pointless remake, the original is still great :suicide:

Jumanji will be well over 19yrs before the remake is out.
There was a 8yr gap when Nolan made his first Batman film, im sure people were finger wagging back then

The ideas dried up a long long time ago in Hollywood, but i rather 1 great film comes out per year, than 50 average original ideas.

This year we got the excellent final chapter in TDKR, were Prometheus disappointed, and hopefully The Hobbit will shine in December.

I think parts 3 and 4 of Batman pretty much had people clambering for a Batman reboot. Especially from such a great director.

Can't see it being a great remake myself. It's a kids film after all. Probably be as bad as those Spy Kids films.

My nieces and nephews will prob love the remake being the target audience, show them the 1995 version and the sfx will be pointed out as being bad, the monkeys...

So at least the remake should look miles better in terms of tech.

I suppose Dwayne The Rock Johnson is waiting for the call :D

Seen the original only once, at the cinema and I was about age appropriate, or maybe a bit old for it. Is it worth me watching again?

I'd say Jumanji is more than just a kids film, it's really quite disturbing in places and it absolutely terrified my little sister. I watch it when it's on Tv and think it's a great film. The board sucking scene, the mad gunman serial killer, the boy turning into a monkey, the giant spiders, Robin Williams' beard... all terrifying. There are plenty of other things that really play on your mind as well, such as where has this kid been gone for the past 26 years? Why is this gunman trying to kill him? Then there's the ending when the game gets found again.

One movie that seriously does not need a remake for at least another 15 years

    Release date 25 December 2016

UK date will be different I'm sure

All other threads (Sony Pictures) will be updated with UK dates near the time

Sony has tapped Gone in 60 Seconds & Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg to write the screenplay, and LOST & Fringe writer Jeff Pinkner is on board as consultant.

With no script, director and cast in place it's unlikely this will meet the late December 2016 US release date.

Jumanji is a great romp, been ages since i've seen it but I always loved it. Emotionally engaging and just loads of fun. Remaking it is as pointless as it gets considering it's not even 20 years old.

The first movie is an adaptation of a children's book. So why can't there be more than one film adaptation. We already have multiple film adaptations of other authors works; be it novels, plays or comics. Visual & practical technology has moved forward so films look but better, but i can't say the same for the writing.

I didn't know that the original Robin Williams film was an adaptation of a book. Thought it was completely original. Still, why remake the same film when it's already been done well? I'd understand if they film was balls, but it wasn't and I think the point of remakes should be to improve on the original rather than rely on a name for another hit.

There are literally thousands of childrens books that could do with an adaption, doing Jumanji is just a waste.
