Anybody read Jon Gaunt's column in todays Sun (Fri may 9th) titled Britain should not be run like the reserves. Maybe I'm getting older & possibly a little less left, but recently I have started to find myself agreeing with the likes of Gaunt & Nick Ferrarri etc, whereas in the past I would find their opinions a little to rantingly right!
Weird eh!

sun and read that's a contradiction in terms isn't it? :p

Listen to Nick Ferrari on LBC most mornings, most of the time i agree with him although he does sometimes go for illogical targets because its popular like banning violent video games

dont know about Ferrari but Gaunt is just a right wing populist windbag who'll spout anything to get a reaction. What I dislike about radio jocks like him is that he has the temerity to lay into anyone who disagrees with him knowing full well that those who phone in are at a disadvantage.
I remain resolutely left wing:thumbsup:

I think Gaunty speaks more sense than most people these days

He wouldn't know 'sense' if it slapped him round the face. Which, after reading his diatribes, is a thought that often occurs.

I often listen to Talksport on the way to and from work. On the odd occasion I am in the car later in the morning I do catch John Gaunt.

I'm sure the last couple of times I have listened he has got less "right wing rant" and more balanced. Perhaps I'm getting more Daily Mail myself or perhaps he just had a couple of off days.

Not so sure about Ferrari - still a twit whenever I've seen him on the telly.

Saw him once on Richard & Judy, wanted to smack the bigotted twonk in the face

Nick Ferrari another short fat twonk rent-a-rant DM brigade twit, who I also feel like kicking the face off whenever he opens his gob on numerous topical issues talkshows

Sometimes I think Jon Gaunt talks a lot of sense other times I think what an idiot. his show goes on about immigration too often but on some other subjects I do find myself agreeing with him.

Well, I have to say I'm not completely shocked. :D;)

Just read Alan Brazil's, another talk sport 'renta-right wing ranter', book, 'Both barrels from Brazil', if you want convincing, if you needed to be, that anyone who 'agrees' with the Talksport crowd is too far gone for any sort of help. ;)

It's a truly appalling trawl through his, and Mike Parry's hate filled BS. Rather than convincing me that I was 'wrong headed' or lacking in 'common sense' (anyone who thinks that making loud offensive remarks to racial minorities in their own establishments apparently is) it left me wondering what the hell is wrong with people tbh.

And when I saw the thread title my first thought was I bet he's not on LGS and Overkill's Christmas card list. :D

Some people are fed up of all the left wing Political correctness we get these days.

LGS is left of Stalin :p

... and some people take all these 'commentators' with a huge slab of salt
- these 'tabloid' right wingers/shock jocks (Ferrari, Gaunt, Bushell, Littlejohn et al) always love to exaggerate isolated incidents (or they just make them up) as some massive lefty/PC agenda when its really a result of our compensation culture

On today for discussion was Norman Kember who had put up bail money for Abu Qatada. Norman Kember was the peace activist ironically rescued by the SAS.

I find myself agreeing with a lot of what Gaunty speaks about on Talksport...but strangely I also find myself agreeing with a lot of what Galloway has to say too.

I think you missed out Jeremy Clarkson. :D

I'm not keen on some of Galloways views but I respect him a lot more than a lot of people on the left. His show is worth a listen too.

:rotfl::rotfl:and there was me thinking you are an even tempered ,reasonable sort of bloke:eek::D

Kember lives down the road from me, a respected retired scientist, but not sure I really understand his Baptist based peace activities.

As regards Qatada, perhaps he thinks he's returning a favour or Qatada has changed, since he shot a video calling for Kember's release (Quatada also offered to help negotiate Alan Johnston's release from Palestinian extremist captors in Gaza) ... still a hate-filled inciteful cleric though and much cleverer than hookhanded Hamza.

yes I am, but I don't mind a bit of 'armchair rage' after listening to that lot on the box :D

Why is any reservation or concern about the validity of a view that is normally regarded as 'left wing' automatically dismissed without consideration of merit or evidence and labelled 'right wing' and usually fascist ?

Right wing authoritarians such as Hitler are much the same as left wing authoritarians like Stalin and Mao.

The 'left wing ' posters here display an emotional response to alternative viewpoints that clearly indicates them to be the authoritarians.

If the cap fits.....

Nature of the beast, I'm afraid. Whether it's banning slavery, child labour, racism or sexism, some form of authoritarianism is required.

I think you will find that authoritarians tend to favour slavery, child labour, racism, sexism, and lots of other nasties. All for the greater good of course. Ends justify means etc.

It's just that they don't start off that way. Hitler was elected, after all.

Capitalism combined with Representative Democracy has stood the test of time. Left wingers/Socialists just want us all to go backwards on the basis of their personal prejudices.

It's the level of authoritarianism that matters, not whether it is of left or right.

Some authority is needed but on balance the only combination that has ever worked is Representative Democracy in a Capitalist society.

If you move away from that one moves to the side of the devil whether one calls it right wing or left wing.
