A truely sad day as the last great radio DJ is no longer with. One of the last reasons i still listened to the radio has now gone. There will never be anyone close to or have the balls to play such a diverse play list in this day and age of commercial, manufactured tosh. I thank him for the bands he opened my ears to (Napalm Death being a favourite) over the years. And my condolences go out to his Wife and family. May he never be forgotten.

Definitely a sad day for music, one of the champions of the alternative music and a true critic that spoke his mind regardless of commercial concern.

Sad loss indeed. I still have C90 cassettes from the mid 70's to early 80's of his shows which I'm planning to move to CD.

Fond memories of the Monocrome Set, Undertones, LKJ, SLF, Slits etc

Home Truths is a programme on Radio 4, and I'd like John Peel to be remembered for that as well as for the music. A sad day indeed.

a sad day, children these days get spoon fed dross music and john peel was one of the only people on radio pushing then lovely spoonfuls of pop crap away and loading folks mouths with fresh music that wouldnt get heard otherwise

theres no one out there that will be able to do the same, radio1 will replace him with some annoying voiced trendy (dont get me started on colin and edith..)

he had such a distinctive and soothing voice that put him on the same level as millions

There's no doubt that the world's a lesser place tonight.

I was suprised and heartened by the number of people of various 'generations' who were genuinely saddened by today's news.

I get the feeling that Teenage Kicks would do very well if they released it as a single - maybe proceeds going to charity would be a nice tribute to John.

Edit - can't believe I got the title wrong the 1st time I typed this, mind you it is early morning and I had a late night last night

RIP john a sad day indeed for music, new bands now have even less chance of radio airplay.

The song is You will Never Walk Alone, for a true Liverpool fan, you will be missed.

Starting to really miss him now

Just to think he's gone forever. Keep going to tune into his show, but he's not there.....
