hi guys,

ive ordered a tv from JL online. for delivery to the isle of wight.

does anyone know how long their standard delivery takes roughly?

im concerned ill be waiting forever due to being on the island and presumably they wont send their van over for one delivery, will i have to wait until they have x amount of deliveries to do?

im impatient for my new toy :D

and they wouldnt let me choose express delivery

well, supposed to be coming tomorrow.....

im a little worried that although our main roads are clear they may shy away form our road, it has a bit of snow but its not impassable, especially in a truck i wouldnt of thought?

do they call if their cancelling? i really dont wanna end up like the poor chap who they cancelled on last minute :( nor do i wanna end up waiting another month for delivery

My lorries had no problem delivering to IOW today, infact despite all the problems we have encountered this week, the only towns we couldnt access was Scarborough and Bridlington. Even had a clean but slow sweep in Scotland since Saturday.

thanks sapper!

what have you been delivering to this fair island? :)

I am National Transport Manager for Wetherspoons, I use 12t for IOW, cheaper on Ferry plus tight access to Ryde Pub.

oh cool!

out of interest how much is a 12t truck on the ferry? do you go portsmouth-fishbourne? (im guessing so as its closest sailing to ryde)

As i work for DHL we have block bookings as a group for about 30 loads a day, i think it is about £115 - £120 return.
Yes we go from Portsmouth but it is cheaper by Red Funnel but we drop in Pompy before catching ferry other wise i would go through Southampton.

thats not too bad at all! i thought it'd be more.

makes you wonder how john lewis can offer free delivery to me then, unless they happen to have a good few drops on the island, its a bloomin expensive trip otherwise!

Costs a lot more to get to NI or the Highlands, i suspect Jls costings are based on number of items delivered in a area or region.
Therefore the more deliveries you load the cheaper the delivery costs. For the 780 pubs nationwide each delivery lorry costs an average of £400 a day, we make deliveries 7 days a week, everything is picked in our NDC moved through the night to 6 other depots and all delivery lorries depart by 06:00 although some will be starting now and making 1st delivery by 02:00.

yeah i suspect a fair bot of planning goes into these things. i saw on a eddy stobart program their trucks have some equipment that knows how efficiently they drive and plots good routes etc.....

i guess they wouldnt be sending a truck just for me! although i guess they'd have to if noone else was due a delivery over here, then it'd cost a few bob

well.....

its not coming :thumbsdow:thumbsdow

they want me to wait another week now. thing is the islands roads are clear.

only thing i can think of is they are just being safe with some of the back roads :(

really thinking of cancelling my order now and going to get it from somewhere else.

i cant watch a 14" portable anymore its driving me insane :suicide:

i wonder if i could pickup from southampton?

JL load of Bull road conditions are the best for days. I suspect they are catching up.
Trouble with canceling prices have gone up and "offers" have disappeared.

It was only a small JL van that dropped my screen off, it handled the snow as well as any small front wheel drive car should, which is pretty damn good.

As an aside, I had John Lewis call me at 1 o'clock today, to see if I had been contacted by my local JL branch, I'm guessing that must have been somebody at Jaime's end ?

I hope you get sorted Sparkie, the screen is worth the wait.

well..... i am sorted.

ive cancelled my order and been and picked one up!

no way am i waiting another week. to be far john lewis have been nice throughout, but they only run a truck over twice a week, thurs/friday.

loving the tv! just watched the 1st shrek in 3d, not a bad film actually :)

got the whole season 2 box set of fringe to watch this weekend so that should help run it in a bit!

it does have a slight buzz though, but not really enough for me to go through taking it all down again and taking it back.

pablo: what are your settings for running in?

As you have now sourced a TV from a different source can you use the correct forum and owner thread for any questions regarding settings...etc, so I can close this thread.
