Hi, finally ordered a 42PV500 with free DVD recorder last week from John Lewis in theTrafford Centre at £2499 - went into Selfridges 30 mins later and they had it for £2249!!! - straight back to JL and filled in the under sale bumpf - couple of days later got the call - yes we will price match! Went in to JL yesterday and they have dropped their price to £2249.
Tried to get JL to let me pay the diff for the upgrade on the dvd recorder with 80G hard drive but no luck with that - anyone had any success with an upgrade?
Thought this may help if anyone is trying for a pricematch.
    Regards
    Graham

That's a very good price. I'm just about to leave to head up to JL at Bluewater, so I will report back as to what they are doing pricewise. I had the letter saying they would only match to £2300 thats for the PV500WAL (without DVD rec). I didn't realise you could just buy the panel only.

I need to mount the panel onto an articulated bracket as it needs to kind of swing out from an alcove in the corner of the room. Does anyone know of a good one for about £250.00??

    Thanks.....

Let's Go digital do the 42" panel on it's own for £1822 with free P&P. You'll have to email them or ring them up as the advertised one on the web site is with dvd recorder. You can basically have any combination of stand or dvd recorder at whatever the cost difference is. I ordered my TH42PV500 plus pedestal stand for £2051 at 4pm on Friday and got woken up at 8:50am by the courier delivering it! Very phappy customer.

JL Oxford Street (London) charged me about £2,650 for 42PV500 with pedestal stand. It looks like each store operates independently?

Was that with the 5 year warranty also, at that price?

I didn't get JL to upgrage to the EH50, even though I was willing to pay the difference. I thought that was pretty poor off them - and as such they lost out on the sale.

However, I've not got my package delivered yet by my local Panasonic dealer. So if the price has the 5 year warranty included they'll be getting a phone call tomorrow and I will be looking for a deal - or my money back before delivery.

Just called John Lewis at the Trafford Centre there - 2249 is the price (not that I was questioning it by the way)

    5 year guarantee & the EH10 recorder.

So... my dilemma now is - cancel my order with my local Panasonic shop which I placed last week, and should be delivered this week - where I paid 2,700 for the PV500 & the EH50 (£200 extra for the HDD DVD upgrade)

    OR (preferably)

Get the Panasonic shop to drop their price to me by the £250 that JL are now offering the TV at.

All in all it just shows how much cash they are making off these if they can do that deal for 2249.

Even if they don’t match it, and I need to cancel – I could still buy the EH50 for £285 from Digital Direct. So I’d still be £166 better off and I’d have a EH10 DVD player to sell as well.

I take it nobody would disagree with this approach?

    Thoughts?

you are in a win win situation! the only reason why I bought mine from JL was the 5-year warranty and expectations that it would provide a good after sale service if need it.

    Kefre,

That was a major deciding factor in my decision too. 5 year warranty was the winner - and the fact it was high street Vs Internet, so if anything went wrong I could appear at the counter (I've nothing against Internet BTW, buy from it all the time - just not items at £2k+)

The fact that JL wouldn't allow me to upgrade the DVD recorder (was completely amazed at their lack of flexibility), and the Panasonic shop would - with the same 5 year warranty & price for the TV meant they got the deal.

However, with £250 more off the package at JL now - Panasonic will need to do the business on that too...

Got mine from JL too, ordered it on line Saturday week they phoned following day (Sunday) to say it would be delivered yesterday, and it was, spot on time. Although I ordered on line the box was marked with our local shop (Liverpool) so if anything goes wrong I'll be straight back to them in person. Can't fault their on line service. only down side is, the package was supposed to include a pack of 5 DVD Ram discs which I have not recieved yet.

I have finally moved towards getting a Plasma sorted and went into the JL in Bluewater today. Had an opprtunity to see both the Panasonic 37PV500 and the Hitachi 42PD7200. Seeing both today did not help in making up my mind. Noticed that the price for both was up at 2495 with a 5 year warranty and nothing else. Now the two magic questions, what is the best price that anyone has seen and managed to get JL to pricematch for either plasma?

Which one do I go for? Ideas??

pd7200 - You can ask JL to price match Richersounds for £1995.
pv500 - I got mine from JL for £1900 WITH pedestal and dvd recorder after they pricematched Buy Your AV.

Have a look at the John Lewis pricematch thread to see who has managed to get JL to pricematch with.

Personally, I did like the 7200 but wasnt keen on the speakers. Did not think they were very securely fastened. I would have had to have removed them and put them else where as I know my little lad would have ripped them off when he starts walking about in a few months. As it is, I am thinking of putting up soem safety guards around my panny anyway. I know I will get sticky fingers all over the screen otherwise :)

Went into local Panny shop in Stirling and they wouldn't budge on price at all so I walked.

Which store did you purchase from and how did you get that price? Was it a price match and if so against who?

    Cheers

i tried a few times at the newcastle store and they wont budge on the price.
when you see people buy it for a few hundred cheaper than i would have to pay, it just doesn't seem fair.

Are you sure its the EH10 (is this the dvd recorder with hard drive?) as I just called up and they quoted the DMRES10 as the free dvd recorder which is a non-hard disk version?

Wow. I thought they would only pricematch high street retailers within a certain distance from shop. I have called JL in Trafford centre who are £2249 +140 for pedestal stand and free DVD so at the very least they should match that.

I know where you are coming from after having about 20 pricematches refused, but I am pretty sure they will match their own stores countrywide, I think someone managed to get an easy pricematch between their JL and the Watford £2349 offer. If you can't pricematch JL Trafford it would make a complete mockery of the system!!!

Agreed, it is still a great price. Although I got a little too excited as I thought it was a hard drive version and i was really keen on that. The way I like to break it down is:

    Total Price: 2249
    DVD rec: 230
5yr warr: 350 (tweak this as you view them)
    Therefore:
    Plasma price = £1669

Which is even cheaper than the totaldigital price which is £1819 (1919 with wall mount)!
