    Hiya,

Recently got a Hitachi 42PD3000 from John Lewis (the classic £3000 offer). It has (and has had since delivery) one dead pixel (it's actually a red stuck pixel).

It's not distracting at all (it's near the top right), but if JL will replace the screen anyway I might as well ask them to. Does anyone know what JL's policy is for dead plasma pixels?

    Thanks in advance.

This is generally set by the manufacturer of the panel. The retailer will only replace or refund if they know that they will get a credit from the manufacturer. Most manufacturers allow 2-3 bad pixels before the panel is considered "faulty". With their reputation for Customer Service, JL may be more understanding than other retailers about this.

Give it a go, better sooner rather than later.
At the end of the day, I consider 1 dead pixel a fault.
When you buy a new car do you say "thats OK, one stone chip on the bonnet is OK", I don't think so, and at the end of the day both are just as likely to happen in reality.
Oh, and by the way, still stunned with my 42pd3000 with NO dead pixels :D

But his screen developed it's fault after he bought it. If I took my car back to the garage after a few trips up the motorway and said 'what are you going to do about these chips in my bonnet?' they'd laugh their a$$ off at me.:)

Does not "It has (and has had since delivery) one dead pixel (it's actually a red stuck pixel)." mean it came with one?

Yes. But only if you read the original post carefully. Which obviously I did not.:suicide:

    No worries.
I also meant to say that JL customer service is very good.
Loads better than most other stores. I talk from experience.

If your not happy then call them.

Also worth pointing out that your contract is with the retailer and not the manufacturer so it ought to be the case that what constitutes a "fault" is to be agreed between you and the retailer, not the manufacturer.

ah but the manufacturer have vicarious liability, as proven in the case of donaghue Vs stevenson where the manufacturer was held responsible for the production of goods, not the retailer.

Went into JL today. Apparently they only replace plasmas if they are defective by manufacturers standards.

For the hitachi 42", it's four dead pixels before they consider it faulty.
