Thats great news but Mr Carpenter please please please make it a good one !

Not happy about remakes of Escape, The Thing or They Live, but that seems to be the way things are :( :(

An intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen (Heard), is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she ever could have imagined.

Jared Harris (Fringe, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
    Mamie Gummer (Taking Woodstock)
    Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass)
Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane)
Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th remake).

Another good looking film. There seem to be a lot of films that I want to see at the moment. Things are picking up. :smashin:

Even the horror websites and magazines gave this terrible reviews when it came out in the US. Looks like another John Carpenter disappointment.

I don't think he's made a great film since The Thing or possibly Starman and a decent one since In the Mouth of Madness. Strange how some directors start their careers with a handful of masterpieces and then spend decades churning out stuff that is barely tolerable. This seems particularly true of horror directors. Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper and to a lesser degree George A. Romero took a similar career nosedive.

Cronenberg is perhaps the only exception to this rule.

Absolutely true. I don't think you'll find a genre director with a better run of films from Shivers to Dead Ringers. Hell, maybe any director.

I kinda like Vampires even if the overall result could have been better. The casting of James Woods is spot on, plus I love the gore of the vamps ripping people to shreds (similar to the more recent 30 days of night).

I know its awful, but i even enjoyed Ghosts of Mars.

Also, I think Memoirs of an Invisible is incredibly underrated, with one of Chevy Chase's last decent performances.

I don't think this has been released in the US, we are getting this first! It may have been seen at festivals which explains the reviews. I personally have never trusted reviews and like to make up my own mind. I will definitely be checking this out.

People keep parroting this opinion on interent forum, but reading reviews is not the same as brainwashing. Why do you think you can't still make up your own mind despite having read reviews ? All that you have to go on otherwise is advertising. At least reviews are generally independent from the studios that want you to spend their money on their product.

A good example of a film that was universally panned by critics when it was released is another John Carpenter film - The Thing. The reviews I saw at the time, just hated it. Now it is a classic mentioned on most horror fans best of lists.

All I'm saying is reviews are just a persons opinion and just because a few dozen people say something is terrible doesn't mean I'm going to dislike it (or like it).

I'll post on here whether I enjoyed it or not.....but please everyone make up your own minds.

A perfect justification to the uselessness of film critics.

Looked promising but even from the trailer looks like its developed into a another dumb movie with a talentless orgy of bimbos to make up for the lack of anything else.

Have to agree ITMOM is worth another visit but its possibly the last decent film he made.

Funny, that's exactly what I said when I first mentioned the film on this thread, but somehow the ITMOM has been taken up as a counter argument to my assertion that Carpenter hasn't made a decent film in ages. In the Mouth Madness was made over 15 years ago and fun as it is in places, it's no Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween of The Thing.

The only thing that ruins EFLA a little bit is that the "surfing" scene makes the CGI in Die Another Day look like the academy award for special effects and technical wizardry.
