Hi: I am shopping for my first real receiver and front speakers...so need some help.
Using it Music 75% and movie 25%

    Speakers (budget $2500-1500; pounds 1500-1000)
I have listened to a bunch in the price range (monitor audio, KEF, B&W)...came to really like the JM Labs Cobalt 816S....what do you pro's think about those speakers?
Also the B&W XT4 sounded good (and looked nice)...but were more pricey; what is the view on those ?

    Receiver (budget $1000-1500; pounds 600-900)
Debating between Marantz SR8500 and the Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi....ofcourse the Pioneer is loaded with functions...but is it an overall.....worth going for the Marantz which is better build quality.
I have heard great things about the ARCAM AVR250....but not as feature loaded as the Marantz or Pioneer Elite......what do you think?

Also would like any other ideas for speakers and receivers.

    Thanks,

I have the Cobalt 816's and they are great pair of speakers but due to the titanium tweeters, make sure you partner them carefully as they can be very bright with the wrong gear.

I would advise that you don't use a silver type speaker cable (like the Chord Odyssey). I will be changing my Chord Odyssey soon because I think they make the speaker bright.

These are great speakers that go together well with Marantz and NAD amps.
    What is the room size?

The room is huge. I don't know whether the 816 will do. Can you stretch the budget for the 826 or do the compromise for the 726?

In anyway you'll need a strong amp. I would stay away from recievers in this case.

With this speakers tyou do not need a overly powerful amp. I think it might even be over kill to do so.

Although I used to run them with a Rotel RB-1090. But hearing them through a Sugden A21a was sweet!

Cobalt series sound a lot better than Chorus (7xx) series. So go for Cobalt.
The room is big indeed. May be you will need bigger speaker, like Electra be 1027.

I agree with the above for your size of room.
