I have the UK DVD of JFK - when I had a normal 4:3 tv it was unwatchable as it was tiny in the middle of the screen. Recently I bought a widescreen tv (Sony 32fx66). When I try and watch this DVD with the tv set to 16:9 and the dvd player set to 16:9 the film still only fills the tiniest amoutn of screen top to bottom.

Is this normal for this film - I don't get it with any other film

    helppppp

    ta

    Ben:(

    yep its normal

16:9 is a ratio of 16 to 9. This is also 1.77:1 Most films are filmed in a ratio of 2.35:1. The bigger the number the more "black" you will see on your "widescreen" telly.

16:9 is a compromise and not true widescreen

Other films will be presented in 1.85:1 (BTTF for example) as this is closer to 1.77 there will be less black and think you're seeing more picture.

4:3 or full frame is 1.33:1

i cant speak for the Region 2 Edition as its pants. I've got the region 4, which is in 2.20:1 it has black bars top and botton like it should have, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not sure if the R2 is anamorphic or not, the region 4 is

i'd advise you to look through your DVD's and find one with a similair aspect ratio (i.e. 2.25:1 or 2.35:1) and see how that looks, is the image smaller? or about the same? etc

thanks for your swift replies - I understand how widescreen etc works - I just wasn't very clear in my original mail

JFK claims to 2.35 to 1 my other 2.35 to 1 discs do give a very small balck band at top and bottom about 1 inch on my tv.

JFK gives a banc of about 4-5 inches!!!! Almost as if it is in balck bands within the 2.35 to 1 aspect...

    any ideas....

its probably to do with it not being anamorphic then I suppose

does it say "enhanced for widescreens"? and does the other 2.35 films say it.

I think the original R2 release of JFR is Non-Anamorphic. When you are playing the disk through your widescreen TV, the TV is squashing the image even more. Try changing the aspect mode to 4:3.

The AS is different from mine. if your happy that your TV settings are right then i'd say that the transfer is ropey. you could try ordering the region 4 directors cut (i think its fairly cheap) and its a two disk set which blows away the woeful R2.

    Sarge,

LHO could never have done it.

While JFK offers no concrete suspect (it throws everything at you in 3 and half hours - hell i even thought i may have done it at one point, until i realised that i wasn't even born!!) The one thing it does do is show that LHO could NOT have done it (not on his own anyway)

Over the weekend I bought the 2-disk Oliver Stone Collection edition of JFK (R1) with an Anamorphic transfer. Posted yesterday so I can let you know how it looks later in the week.

    From Play at #13.99 JFK@Play

Also, no way he did it alone, There has been a good series on the History Channel about "The Men Who Killed Kennedy", all very conspiracy theory but with good reason. Its unbelievable how much the Warren Commision either ignored, covered up or just didn't acknolwedge.

Didn't Sam Beckett do it in Quantum Leap lol

He certainly did, but did you notice that, that one was the last in the series and then when the new series started they didn't continue from where they left off.

I read a book once about how the author thought that JFK was shot by one of his agents from the car behind falling over once the first shot had gone off.
