Spotted the following on highfidelityreview.com & it appears that one of my DVD-A wishes has been granted

‘Aero’, Jean-Michel Jarre’s latest album, will be released as a DVD-Audio disc on 21st September, according to the official Jean-Michel Jarre web site.

‘Aero’ is a greatest hits album, but also includes four previously unreleased compositions. Rather than re-mixing old recordings for surround, all the tracks have been re-recorded by Jean-Michel, Francis Rimbert and Patrick Pelamourgues to take full advantage of DVD-Audio’s potential, the surround mix being created by Joachim Garraud.

The album will be released on East West records, a Warner imprint, and preliminary details indicate that it will include 3/2.1 surround mixes in Dolby Digital and DTS form for DVD-Video players, and 96kHz 24-bit PCM for DVD-Audio machines.

While the CD and DVD-Audio track lists are identical, the DVD-Audio version will include “scenes”, small interludes between tracks, created by Joachim Garraud at Square Productions, Paris, back in August 2003.

    Track List:
    Aero Opening - Scene 1
    Oxygene 2 - Scene 2
    Aero - Scene 3
    Equinoxe 8
    Oxygene 4 - Scene 4
Souvenir of China - Scene 5
    Aerology - Scene 6
    Equinoxe 3 - Scene 7
    Equinoxe 4 - Scene 8
    Last Rendez-Vous - Scene 9
    Zoolookologie - Scene 10
    Aerozone - Scene 11
    Magnetic Fields 1 - Scene 12
    Chronologie 6
    Rendez-Vous 4

It's been pretty quiet on the Dvd-audio front recently, but this more
than makes up for it. I went to a JMJ show back in the late 80's, and
the images remain with me still. Let's hope that the team behind this release
are as forward thinking with the surround mix now as they were with the
original albums/shows. Thanks for the heads up PaulBoy, can't wait! :smashin:

Really looking forward to this also.

Can still remember watching "Rendevous Houston" and him playing the laser harp. The sound, effects and projections onto the skyscrapers were incredible. Most "Blade Runneresque......"

Wow, great find - having just purchased a DVDA/SACD player, this is one artists material I will definately be buying.

Any sites have any preorders on yet?

    Joust

p.s. I was pretty fortunate to go to the Docklands concert in '89, what a fantastic night even if it did ****** down with rain all through the concert!!

I have read this with interest, as I recently started playing some of his stuff again, but I dont know if it is still as good as when it came out. The technical differences with DVD-A and DTS might make for a different experience, I am sure it will be high up on the list.

Just placed an order with Play for this too!
However, they have a DVD Audio only version, and the CD+DVD double pack.

I went for the CD+DVD double pack but wondered if there's a difference in the DVD Audio disc with each version. After all, there only appears to be £1 difference in price.

Are they the same? If so, it seems bizzare pricing.

My JMJ DVD+CD pack arrived from amazon yesterday. The DVD is a DVD-Video with full-rate DTS 5.1 and DD 5.1 tracks.

What a con! So its not DVD Audio at all.
Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I think 'll send it back.

Does anyone know if the DVD Audio only disc is the same?

I think there is 96/24 PCM stereo as well as DTS & DD5.1 on the DVD disc.

Mine hasn't arrived yet but I'd be so dissapointed if there isn't
a high resolution multi-channel mix on it as looks to be the case.
I wondered why it was so cheap.

Well just got home & opened my CD & DVD-A bundle & its NOT a DVD-A disc! The second disc is a DVD with a bizarre video of someones eyes for 72minutes but the DTS sounds pretty good although a bit too much 5.1 giggery pockery for my liking - I like the idea that JMJ has totally remixed all his old stuff adding much needed bass & drums - there is some serious LFE here and the whole DVD is mixed VERY LOUD!
I'd like to know if there is a genuine DVD-A version though (as I have a DVD-A SACD player ... Paul ;)

If its not a DVD Audio disc, why was it advertised as such?
Still not recieved mine yet, but pretty sure it'll be going back  .

I want DVD Audio to succeed, but with cockups like this, what hope does it have?

I've just looked at the description on Amazon and it says this:-
"Aero is a double CD format, a DVD and CD in one package. The DVD is recorded in 5.1 DTS, Dolby AC3 and PCM 9624 KHz Stereo and the CD is recorded in Super Stereo. There is also an optional visual element on the DVD format, which offers an unusual visual experience. A pair of beautiful eyes, shot in high-definition cinema scope, gazing out at the listener and reacting emotionally to the music... for the entire 75 minutes of the album."

But I'm sure I've seen it advertised as a DVD-A somewhere

On play.com the page for the CD with bonus DVD says...

And the DVD-A only version quotes...

I ordered the CD/Bonus DVD version from CD-Wow earlier this week, and up to now it has not arrived so I cant make any comments about exactly what you may or may not get if you have ordered this.

It states its been mixed or mastered as a DVD A using the full whack stuff (I dont know the technicalities but its that 24/96 thing)

It sounds very good regardless... listened to it last night... its just those eyes on the screen that put you off!

There's no PCM 96/24 mix on my disc. When you select the 2.0 mix on the DVD, it simply refers you to the CD disc..... which by by nature can only be a regular CD, i.e 16bit.

And what is 'Super Stereo'? It means nothing and is misleading.

Whether this disc actually sounds ok or not is not the point.
    It isn't a DVD-Audio disc and I feel like I've been duped.

I don't like being duped, and on principle alone I will be sending it back.

Thought I'd "revive" this thread - Any word as to whether there ever was a DVD-A version of Aero ? Play still have a DVD-A version listed as "Released - Awaiting Stock"
Great CD & DVD (DTS & DD5.1) both VERY LOUD!
DVD-A would have been awesome ... Paul ;)

Ah Joust you went to the Docklands gig on the Sunday when for some odd reason they decided to film most of the coverage. Saturday when i went was dry until 11pm. I know this coz we had just got back on the coach when it lashed it down lol.
Twas a long day we got to the Docklands about 3pm & stood until home time at 11pm. They couldn't put up half the screens coz of the high winds. Bloody cold but a fantastic night. Simul cast if i remember right with Radio 1 :)
Those cluster bombs going really shook the foundations lol.
    Great night though :)

As for this DVD-A your all going on about. To my knowledge there is no such disc & never will be.
Jarre remixed this album himself coz no other studio could do what he wanted to do. Ill be ordering the CD-DVD soon.
Id rather it was on SACD anyway. Soo much better :) Just my opinion of course.
All Jarre's albums have always sounded fantastic. No doubt "Aero" will be the same :)

speedyuk ... You will not be disappointed with the 5.1 mixes on the bonus DVD - as I said before even the 2 channel mix is amazing & typical of JMJ who as you rightly state has always produced quality sounding CDS ...
Its just a shame that our hopes were raised by disinformation about a DVD-A release (or as you would prefer a SACD - I have a hybrid player & would happily have taken it on either format) when what they meant was a Bonus DVD with 5.1 audio not a DVD-A  ...
Lets put it down to a French/English translation problem :suicide: Paul
