Right, I just watched the Region 2 version of Jaws, and I noticed that it is very high pitched, is this due to the film being relativly old? or is it something to do with PAL speedup isses?

    Have a look at this
As long as you don't tell me Robert Shaw sounded like Lisa Simpson and you don't swear blind that the shark broke the underwater speed record, I'm prepared to believe the fact that YOU could hear it - without running it directly next to the NTSC version - honest.

Well it more of an extreme amount of treble on the soundtrack, what is the sound like on the region 1 version? I would be very keen to buy this if the sound was better and not so harsh. (Maybe I shouldnt listen at -10 :))

Not wanting to start anything here, but.....

I found that the DTS version of Jaws isnt great, but is an improvement on the DD version.

Everyone always quotes the DD mix on Jaws as an example of a bad mix. I watched it the other day, and I can't say I noticed much wrong with it.

What exactly is supposed to be the problem with the DD mix ?

I think it isn't much of a soundtrack in stereo, DD 5.1 or DTS. It is a big blockbuster, but is an almost exclusively visual film IMO. Just some bassy music at odd times, a couple of blokes grunting at each other on a boat and the occasional scream. :D Nothing to get my speakers/ears too excited about.

I think the most unpleasant aspect of Jaws' remixed soundtrack is that several sound effects have been replaced/"rethought": most noticeably the whalesong during the "Show me the way to go home" scene.

yes, it's minor, but it spoils it for me. Why replace something that was fine in the first place? Don't tell me Spielberg has sat there all these years (a la George Lucas) and thought "Gee, I wish I'd used a better whalesong in Jaws."

    bobbins.

    Regards,
    Anephric

I have no problem with the quality of it: I object to ****ing about with the content. It's like redubbing lines with something different.

Does he own the copyright? I think you'll find he doesn't. Directors are lucky if they even have final cut.

It's "his" only in that he directed it. What about the writer? it's "his" film too... or any other amount of contributors.

Once a film has entered into the public consciousness in a sense it's all "our" film too: which is why so many people got ****** off when Lucas monkeyed about with Star Wars: it interferes with (perhaps treasured) memories of it.
