Just read this over at DvdTimes.....

"Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition for 14th June 2005 priced at $22.98 SRP. Steven Spielberg's monster classic resurfaces on DVD to celebrate its 30th Anniversary coming to us as a two-disc set packaged with a Commemorative Photo Journal.

Exact details on what additional bonus features we can expect over the current release are yet to be revealed, though it seems like wishful thinking that we'll finally see the full-length making of documentary from the Laserdisc edition on the bonus disc. Arriving in separate Widescreen and Full Screen editions, both are packed with language options which include English 2.0 Mono, 5.1 Surround and 5.1 DTS Surround alongside French and Spanish 5.1 Surround tracks. The standard subtitle options of English, French and Spanish languages will also be available."

I wonder if this will be a newly re-mastered version.

I agree with all the comments made about multiple editions being released by the studios but I really hope that they put a bit of effort into bringing out a definitive version this time around. A classic like this deserves it. Dvd has come on a lot in the last few years and what might have been acceptable then will not be now. So I really hope that it is a new improved transfer with worthy extras.

I have been waiting for news on a 30th Anniversary Edition, I have the 25th Anniversay release in my collection but if the quality and extras have been improved upon then I will stick it on eBay and buy the new release, cant believe it has been 5 years already.

Know what you mean mate, 5 years! Incredible.

Although it's my favourite film of all time, I doub't that the A/V will be much improved over the already excellent 25th Anv Edition.

    I'll wait for BR/HD-DVD

Just got this from the Jaws forums, posted buy Ed who got it from DVD times co.uk.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition for 14th June 2005 priced at $22.98 SRP. Steven Spielberg's monster classic resurfaces on DVD to celebrate its 30th Anniversary coming to us as a two-disc set packaged with a Commemorative Photo Journal.

The standard subtitle options of English, French and Spanish languages will also be available.

About time, at least i can now put the Laser Disc away, seeing as the new DVD will have the Mono soundtrack.

Sorry for the ignorance, but why is the mono soundtrack so coveted? Was there some changes made, some additions perhaps?, made to the 5.1 mixes?

    Hi russraff.

Yeah Jaws did get a 5.1 mix 5 years ago for the DVD release, however some of the classic sounds from the award winning Mono mix where taken out, even the score was slightly different in parts.

Well for the true Jaws fan it was a big mistake on Universals part.

eg: The whale song at night just after Quints speech had been changed, this was a sound that made go cold ever since the 1st time i saw Jaws as a kid. But as i say it was very different in the new Mix.

A 5.1 mix useing all the original sounds would have been nice.

Sorry even the creaking and growning noises of the Orca sinking had been taken out.

So the Mono mix is a must for any Jaws fan.

Does anyone know whether this is going to get a UK Region 2 release?

    Cheers.
