without giving away any spoilers what are the most jaw dropping endings to films you have seen.

    My top 5 would be

    5 Happiness (how appropriate)
    4 The French Connection
3 Angel heart (i simply didn't see it coming)
2 Planet of the Apes (the original, the recent is fairly jaw dropping in its stupidity mind you)

    and ....

1 The Usual Suspects (i think we all understood how Kujan felt)

The obvious one is the sixth sense but i knew it had a twist before i went into the cinema and knowing that made me guess it inside 10 min

I see a lot of endings coming these days (no rude jokes please lads :D)

    Here's some that I didn't expect .......

Donnie Darko (buggered if you understand it the first time you watch it anyway :p)
    Mulholland Drive (ditto :p)
    Lost Highway (ditto :p)
    Usual Suspects of course :D
    Unbreakable
    City of Angels [IMG]

I saw the ending to Se7en coming .....

    *** SPOILER TO "SE7EN" *******

Kinda obvious to me once I knew how many he'd already killed as they drove up in the car

    **** END OF SPOILER **********

Sixth Sense was spoilt for me before I saw it anyway (damn that 11 o'clock show on Ch4 )

Can't think of any more at the moment

"Use of Weapons" by Ian M Banks.

OK, so it's a book, but even though I'd been told there was a twist I was completely shocked when I read the final page...

    Cheers,
    Liam

Personally I thought that the ending to Shattered with Tom Berenger was great. I saw it many years ago and had no idea how it ended and I found it excellent. Probably the best ending I remember even considering the likes of Seven and Usual Suspects which are among my fav films.

    Fight Club.

Not so much the "twist", but the explosive end setpiece....beautiful.

The Big Silence (Il Grande Silencio in my pidgeon Italian).

This was a classic "non-hollywood" ending.

Don't know yet if my jaw is going to drop at the ending/beginning of Momento, cos I haven't worked it out fully. Great film. The only film I can remember that I wanted to hurry up and end so that I can see what happened.........then didn't fully work it out anyway, so jaw currently hovering. Poor old Sammy & Mrs. Jankis.

My longest memory of a top ending is from the zombie flick The Beyond. Haven't watched it for about 20 years but still recall being left feeling in despair about it (I was 15 at the time)

    Morning,

Some of my "shock endings" would include:

Se7en - when I first saw it, it totally blew me away. Never anticipated that in a million years.

"Run, Lola, Run" - okay, so technically there are three endings, but it's still kinda cool.

"The Princess And The Warrior" - Tom Tykwer's latest drama has a real belter of an ending (in my opinion). Unless you pay extremely close attention to every little thing he shows and has the cast speak, then you'll miss how the ending is about to take place. I missed it! Hence, the surprise!

What about the classic, original version of George Sluizer's "The Vanishing" (aka "Spoorloos") from 1988?! Absolute blinder of a film!

    Mike,

There's really nothing to work out here. I won't post an explanation of the ending for fear of ruining it for others, but if you want me to tell you, PM me and I'll be happy to. :)

Definately agree with Fight Club. Absolutely stunning. Probably Shawshank Redemption, Usual Suspects, Memento, Psycho (skull superimposed over Norman Bates face). Spotted Sixth Sense and Vanilla Sky a mile off. People shouldn't make films just for an excuse to have a twist.
