It is not very often that I get excited by DVD packaging, back in the days of LP and Laserdisc it used to mean quite a bit to collectors to have nice artwork, but in these days of DVD, we very rarely get artwork which is good. I think this is another reason why importing from Japan pays off in collectability stakes. Today I recieved the Japanese R2 edition of Black Hawk Down for review thanks to www.cdjapan.co.jp and was knocked out by the packaging used. This edition has dts sound like the Norway edition of the disc, but every edition I have seen, bar the 3 disc us version, has had very lame artwork and comes in the standard amaray packaging. This edition is in a cardboard sleeze with a pull out digipak containing the disc and foldout booklet. and it looks brilliant. Here is the front and back of the sleeve; Front. Back And the fold out digipak front; And Back; Excuse the poor scans, but you get the idea. It's just a pity the scans don't give the sheer glossy effect that holding this does. The film won an oscar for sound design, yet is only available in dts in northern Europe and in Japan. I should have the disc reviewed very soon for you.
