have they where did you hear that?

i doubt it, they are struggling to meet demand as it is...

i think what you are finding is that the importers are able to get more stock in japan at closer to the retail price and competition being what it is, passing the discount on to the consumer.

    Hi

I have been reading various threads and thought I would post a reply.

Firstly Sony are not struggling to meet demand. Infact there are currently a lot of psp's unsold in Japan. Sony distributed nationwide, a high percentage went to rural locations or small towns where demand was not so high. If you travel 40 miles out of Tokoyo every corner electronic shop has a least a stock of twenty value packs all the time, just bad distribution by Sony.

Some one else said that Sony's components are made in house, wrong about 90% of the psp's components are made by many different companies all across the world. one such company is based in edinburgh...wolfson electronics.

Finally the psp will not be launched here until October for the pre christmas rush.

    Hi Risky

You have done the right thing getting an imported one. I cheekily emailed a member of the Sony product Pr team in Weybridge fishing for info. My are they touchy, point blank refused to confirm any dates only confirmed March/April for American release. They estimate sales of 3 million plus in the States. Samsung and other companies cannot produce the parts due to a shortage in key components. In the business I work in I deal with a company who produces microchips for various uses in the print world. There is a major shortage of materials. It may be hard to believe but the materials used to manufacture chips is only produced by a handful of companies and they have to supply everyone, demand is high supply is low.

If Sony manage to distribute 3 million is the USA it will mean they have been manufacturing the psp's at a rate of 23 per minute, based on a three month time frame working 24 hours a day, average thirty days a month for arguements sake. They will not have been able to manufacture enough for europe at the same time. America is the big one , Europe will always be second

That is a right pain if the date is gonna be put back so much, as I personally cant afford to get a japnese one or a us one (though I wouldnt want a us one due to the region coding for films and wouldnt like to transfer my own films onto a duo stick too time consuming) nor can my mates.

I think its all a big c*&k up if they first say a date then cant make it, it's not fair on us (then life aint either bu there you go)

Very interesting piece, I brought mine or should I say my 'sons' one for two reasons firstly there has been talk (rumour) that sony were going to use a cheaper screen for the european version, this may also knock on to the USA because the the way Japanese companies operator is a 'Flawless Launch' and then they start to pull the cost out and the first thing will the be screen and secondly the little sod has been pastering me since before the launch that he wanted one. After getting it and seeing what you can do with it I'm over the moon and it was money well spent. The only thing is now I'm on a steep learning curve leaning how to RIP DVD's then put them back together and convert to Sony Mpeg4 Codec and then transfer to the PSP. The games and DVD films/Simpsons look brilliant on the PSP. Anybody who says different hasn't got one or used one.

If the launch is delayed here it will only do one thing and push up the prices of the imported versions.
