    I have recently bought a set of 5 Jamo D500 (LCR's).

I am really pleased with them and will add some pictures at a later day of my setup!

Any other Jamo owners around here?

I just moved from a B&W CM7 setup to the D600 5 speakers. Currently tweaking the setup and calibrating, but so far quite impressed.

My amp can power them properly too, 300w @ 4 ohms

Nice, i was tempted by the D600 as they are not a whole lot more than the D500, its just the surroudns won't into into where i wanted them to go and the fronts are massive at 60cm wide!

lol 300w into a 89db 4ohm speaker is crazy volume. How far away from the speakers do you sit? I would be interested to see how the XPA sounds with the Jamos as at some point i would like to get a proper power/pro over an intergrated amp i have at the moment.

    Edit
My power amp calculator suggests that if your 3m away that would be hitting you with 115dB peaks! lol

    My room is 6.5 x 3.6 x 2.4m. I usually sit between 4.5 and 5.5m away.

The amp is capable of 300w rms x 5 @ 4ohms (or 200 @ 8ohms). I usually watch movies between -12 and -10. But the other night I watched Avengers at reference level and it was just glorious.

I use a Marrantz AV amp for processing, and take pre-outs to the XPA-5. When I upgraded to the XPA-5 the difference was amazing. One of the best things I ever did.

You are welcome to come over for a demo mate.:)

If your not far i would definitely come for a demo at some point! I would love to be able to demo a power amp. On one hand some people say they make no difference unless your already pushing the power on your current amp into clipping, and for me to hit reference i need about 30w a channel. On the other hand people find they get huge benefits from using external power amps. Maybe its due to the strain taken off the avr and it having its own power supply as opposed to sharing? Be great to know the technical answer!

    Hi,

Did you get chance to demo the D500's before you purchased, I am looking into getting a listen but finding it hard to find a demo. I can either demo in the Birmingham or London?

    Thanks

    Tom

I live in Hinckley (Burbage) if you want a demo your more than welcome to come over one evening. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to demo before buying which was a shame as no where seems to stock them.

I work in The mailbox in Birmingham so if I can be of any help just leave a message on here.

Also I can give you some advice on where to buy them , I spent a good while negotiating the price!

Thanks, if it was my house (not rented) I would chase in the cables as it would make it look much neater. The other addition would be a projector, unfortunately these are deemed unsuitable for living rooms (as you can imagine this was not my idea on the subject!).

Yeah chasing in the cables does look alot better. I did that for my sister when she was redecorating her living room so all shes has is her 42 samsung and three boston acoustic little speakers. No cables can be seen and it looks bespoke.
My rears at home arnt chased in and the fronts are floorstanding with wires everywhere haha..
Cant see them when the lights are iff and youe watching a film.;)

The closest thing I can do is use clips to attach the cables to the walls then paint over them. As far as cableling goes its faily unobtrusive at the moment, just the tv power cable and hdmi cable could do with being quite perhaps.

Thanks for the offer most kind,

I have found a Birmingham retailer that will let me have them on home trial for a month so think I will give that a try.

    Thanks

Was it audioaffair? A month home trial should be a good time period to test in! I will be interested to see what your views on then are after the trial period!

Watched Avengers, Les Mis and Super 8 in the last few days. This system is simply awesome. It can go louder and be more dynamic without distortion than my previous B&W setup.

The train crash scene in Super 8 at reference levels leaves you gasping for breath.

Its the main difference I noticed going from hi fi speakers to a proper home cinema speaker is the level they are happy to play at without them sounding strained or harsh on the ear!

They are certainly a fair bit bigger than the d500! I was tempted by the d600, the problem was they are 60cm wide making it just too big for my room.
