I'm looking to upgrade the hifi in my jaguar xjr, it,s a 1998 model non premium sound system, it has the hole in the rear shelf behind the headrests for the 6 by 9 sub that jaguar fit as part of the 'premium' upgrade, in my opinion this still sounds poor. I am thinking of using one of genesis's 6 by 9 subs in the shelf, what I really want to know is if anyone knows how this will sound when it's using the boot as it's enclosure? some dealers have sugested this others say it will only work in 0.3 cu box, I'm also open to any other sugestions. I am replacing front door speakers with new components and will probably drive these and a sub from one amp again probably genesis profile range.

    hey ...

i too have been looking to upgrade the soundsystem ,,,, i have a 1998 Jag V8 it also has a standard sound system nothing fancy .. but speaking with the local dealers ..Uplands car audio people here in swansea (wales) they said that i needed to have a whole new system as alot of the exsisting system uses fiber optics and can not use any original amps or wiring..

i would ideally like an indash DVD SAT NAV system with a 5.1 surround option with a built in screen upfrount and a nice big'isg flip down screen for the rear ..

i have had no luck ... as the systems i have seen are either double din for the front dash mount or single dins and the current audio suppliers do not have facias suitable !

i will be following this thread with greatest interest !

    good luck ... KK

That's cool if you like the brightness and style of many single din headunits, I think the wood colour could be better matched. For me the interior must look stock, and retain the original headunit, regards the fibre optic issue you have been told about it is total ********! I own my own independent jaguar specialists in Derby so now Jags very well. The headunit and cd changer are made for Jaguar by alpine so are high quality anyway, they don't provide any pre-outs though but I have used alpine amps with speaker level inputs for a previous customer, We also fitted a playstation in the boot and fold down tv on the roof, wireless headphones and controls. This was good but never had much depth and lower frequencys were simply not played, hence my question about the gennesis 6*9 sub free air mounted. Pictures of the roof mounted screen can be seen at our website on the multi-media page.

    Hope this is usefull/of interest.

Totaly forgot about this posting! Well a quick update for anyone who's interested. I have given in and changed all of the original equipment that Jaguar had installed, I now have a comprehensive Alpine install caried out by myself that I think blends in nicely and compliments the Jag. It's fronted up with Alpines new 6.5 inch touch screen media headunit (latest addition:D ) with a custom module to enable the steering wheel control to function, Alpine components in all four doors, Alpine 12" sub in custom fibreglass enclosure, Alpine 5 channel amp, Alpine 6 disc changer, Alpine dolby digital processor, Alpine amp & center channel speaker, 2nd Centurion boot mounted DVD player for future upgrading (rear screens). Full custom boot panelling and trim (all removable on trim clips), theres a direct port from the boot space through to the rear deck thats linked over the top of the petrol tank.
Overall 40 hours of work! The system does sound great (thank god) and DVD playback in full surround sound is awesome in car.

I've never posted pics before so hope they come out ok.
