having had great fun installing my new iXtreme gold and MCE I have hit a problem - I cannot get it to recognise SKY - I have tried RF out using coax into my tv card, also tried scart to red/white/yellow all to no avail

I have read the related forums and can't find the answer - any ideas out there ?

Presumably you have the correct lead? These cables are directional. Some come with a switch to enable you to select the direction.

You need a scart to AV cable. If you are not even getting any sound then it looks to me like you have an AV to scart!

thanks Dave, the direction is good because I can plug it into a thompson wireless transmitter and gives a perfect signal - is there anything that needs to be checked in MCE to say recieve signal from satellite box ?

Yes, when you run TV setup for the first time you have to tell it to use a sat receiver. You also tell it, IIRC, how it is connected (component or s-video)

From a quick Google on iXtreme gold it appears that you are referring to a Packard Bell system with a digital DVB-T (Freeview) tuner. This is not suitable for connecting an external set top box like Sky+. You need an analogue TV capture card such as Hauppauge PVR150.

i can only get a signal using scart to s-video - for some reason using the rf-out on my sky box and a coax connection does not enable me to pick anything up
and with s-video the picture is black and white
