The answer to the following questions must be yes, for you to obtain a picture:

Is the cable plugged into the RGB enabled scart socket on the TV, which is usually labelled AV1 on Sony TVs?
Has the DVD been set to output an RGB picture?

    Good luck.

Only other thing that springs to mind is that the cable could be directional

I think you will find it is directional,it has a collar at the output end!

Thanks for the suggestions, Scart input was correct, settings were correct, reversed cable but still no picture. Have changed back to my old Ixos XHT601 with no problem.
I have tried the cable on a different system ( A Thompson 28WH101 TV, and a CyberHome AD-L526 DVD player) and experienced no problem.
I have come to the conclusion that it is either my dvd player (Pioneer DV565) or my television (Sony KV-FX68U) or the combination of both.

Tried my Cyberhome dvd player with sony TV using the Ixos XHV601 RGB only and was able to get a picture, so my conclusion is that the Pioneer DVD player is the problem.

If it's still under guarantee you may want to get it fixed - sounds like there is something wrong with the RGB output.
