Well, after months of deliberation, and a number of false starts and near misses, I have finally placed an order. Not sure whether to make this post really as it does kind of open me up to comments that I have made a mistake or bought the wrong system but I am so pleased to have finally made a decision. Ben Tiffin at av-sales.co.uk was a huge help and I feel very pleased with the overall deal. Should be with me within a few days as well!
So, I was originally sure I wanted a HD-ready TV - ended up getting an SD panel.
I've got for the 42PWD8 panel in the end. I know it's not HD ready but there was a great thread on here about 'Who's waiting for a PWD8/PHD8 that struck a chord, and Ben talked a lot of sense too. Plus, the price difference between the PWD and PHD couldn't really be justified given that the PWD will show HD pics, just with some jiggery pokery that will still give me a perfectly good picture for my requirements. I've got a JS convertor for my Sky+ box and a Denon 1706 AV Amp to handle the switching and sound, with a Canton Movie 10 Speaker Package. So Sky+, my Panny E500 DVD player and PS2 go into the Denon and then the Denon attaches to the screen's VGA port.
All sounded pretty good to me, and cost less than the 436XDE that was my other option, with a bit of extra flexibility built in.
Mostly happy to just have made a decision.
