Hey, I've got an interview at Comet on sunday but i don't know too much about the stuff they sell.

I'm very good with PC's and games consoles but thats about it.

Any idea what sort of stuff they might ask?

    thanks

I worked in high street retail for 10 years. They're bound to want to know what you're like with people. It's great that you know your stuff in a couple of technical areas, but these sorts of stores are all about customer interaction - in particular, how you empathise with customers to secure what's known in the biz as 'sales through service'. Essentially, you need to convince your interviewer that by taking a genuine interest in each customer's requirements, you can turn good service into sales.

Another tip for you (but not one to mention at the interview): if you get the job, and if occasion arises, don't ever be afraid to advise customers to buy certain items from other stores. You need to be subtle about this - and obviously, make sure your manager isn't within earshot - but the effect this has is to make you seem like a 'man or woman of the people'. Customers will respect and trust your honesty in trying to get them the best deal; often, with the result that they'll return to your store, make further purchases, and sometimes even ask to deal specifically with you! If commission is involved, you're laughing. If not, you still earn a good sales reputation. Brown-nosing this may be (you can avoid that label amongst peers if you're clever), but sales is certainly the most important thing to such companies; they're generally not that interested in the goods they sell, despite the image they portray.

    Best of luck!

    :rotfl:

Learn a bit about the sales practice of Monster Cables, learn about white goods, explain why high definition is the next big thing.

You'll then be laughing all the way to the bank if you can sell enough insurance to make it worth your while getting up in the morning. :)

I remember my comet interview all they were interested in was how well I could talk to people and how good I would be at selling things. So after convincing them I could sell snow to eskimos they took me on :D

P.S. I was really Bad Salesmen because I couldnt lie to people LOL

There you go - proves the point I was making in an earlier post: companies like Comet are more interested in profit than people ...

Why should you be any different to the others that work there?

when i worked in currys i also avoided the white goods. how much can you say about a washing machine! i can barely use one let alone sell it.
then you had the nightmare delivery drivers who wouldnt install it because there was a piece of dirt in the way, etc

I know it’s all on the fing energy sticker what else do they want. And what extras can you sell with a friging fridge? Would you like a fridge freshener with that sir? For when you cant be arsed to throw mouldy food away :)

At least with brown and silver goods there’s shed loads of accessories you can flog with them. :D

So did you get the job then Clubber?
