    after much ummm'ing and arrr'ing, I've ordered a Sony 350 (actually the bdvfs350 with 2.1).

I was going to get the onkyo htx22hd to go with the s350 but couldn't be bothered waiting. Also the thing that finally pushed it was my xbox dying last night - I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks for that to be repaired so I need something to entertain myself with :smashin:
And at least i can use one remote to control the lot (sony lcd as well).

So, next question, which films will show off the best of blu ray to me?
Dark night? (not part of the amazon 3for2 deal?)

    any other recommendations, deals etc?

    Thanks!

Ive just spent over £100's worth of BD's via RDVD. oops. And there were more I wanted!!! Why so expensive :(

One of which was 'Baraka'? It was released in 92 apparently, but remastered in BD. Seemed to get great reviews on the website for qaulity and soundtrack, one of which was a by a denon 3800 owner? He now uses it as a benchmark dvd!? Bit of a random purchase, but ive seen some great films in the past buying unusual titles?

Just need my new kit to arrive and try them all out on now
    :D

I thought HellBoy II was the best BD picture ive seen to date via my PS3.

I think this would be better in the Blu-ray Movie section along with the other same threads... :smashin:

I'll suggest Dawn Of the Dead (original) :D

amazon have got a nice little sale on. loads of blu rays under 10 each. and most are also in their 3 for 2 offer. So you could get black hawk down, 300 and the shawshank redemption for about £18. Billy bargain

    Amazon.co.uk: Advanced Search - Blu-ray / DVD & Blu-ray: DVD

Also if you have still have a zavvi they are selling off all their blu rays for 15-17 with an additional 25% off.

Hard to recommend films for other people, if you just want to watch great picture quality and sound then go with all the usual mentions. I only really go for films that appeal to me, so I haven't seen most of the recommended 'demo material' yet :suicide: lol

I think any of the mentioned animated stuff is ideal as 'demo' material, but not something you may want to sit down and watch.

For adult/real life action films, I don't think you can beat any of the POTC trio, for great sounds and picture, as well as being something you may actually enjoy watching (well the first one any way )

    Cheers

    I'd still recommend Identity.

Great PQ, great SQ, and a very good film.

Oh, and you can get it from Amazon for under a tenner.

Baraka was remastered from 70mm film hence the stunning pq. I haven't seen better. Another old fil remastered from 70mm stock which is worth a look is Zulu.

Baraka has stunning unsurpassed visuals but the lack of a narrative makes it a slog to watch in anything longer than 20 min chunks.

The Connery Bond's are amazing remasters, the Pixar movies are faultless in every way, The Descent in it's new Australian edition is blindingly good, The Fall is an overlooked film that offers outstanding eye-candy and No Country For Old Men I thought was pretty spiffy in just about every dept.

Zulu and Band of Brothers are must have's as well I reckon.

Wall-e is still my favourite though, stunning picture and sound with a cracking story.

Except the smearing ruins the experience for me. In fact via my Plasma it looked quite bad noise wise.

I'm sure the DVD boxset had none of the smearing.

For me the image quality has worn off. I just want good movies to watch.

Even if they are via blurred DVDs :rotfl:
