Just found this out... ITV4 due to air from Autumn 2005!
Who do we petition for getting programmes shown?
It's good news though.
I don't know who you can petition to discuss programme suggestions with, but try contacting your local ITV regional office. They will have a Duty Office / Customer Queries department for members of the public, and you can ask them.
But, yes, it does sound pretty good. As long as they get some more good US shows, then I'm all for it!
But both ITV2 and ITV3 are hideous channels. There is no need for another.
ITV know that the slices from the advertising cake are going to continue getting smaller over the next few years as digital becomes the primary source of television so by launching more channels they hope to grab enough advertising from less mainstream channels to compensate for the dwindling audiences their flagship channel creates.
ITV2 and ITV3 are no better than many of the multichannel offerings more far smaller broadcasters but they serve a purpose and while not for everyone there are enough people to justify their existence.
indeed hadnt they better get some decent material for at least ITV1 with out having 3 other channels. only reason i tune into itv is for the football the rest is garbage apart from the occasional film which is hindered by ad's
Completely agree with Kopite there, only things I watch on ITV are the football. Let's have some decent programmes on 1 channel first before trying to fill 4 ITVs.
Just what i always wanted.....more overly compressed ITV channels.....
Agreed. Get ITV1's quality up before any more, 2 and 3 are crap.
I should add I think ITV1 isn't that far ahead of them.
Yep. Agree with the above. Multiplying crap doesn't equal quality.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that all the existing ITV channels are so bad, they'd be hard pushed to fill one channel with quality programs with the combined output !
Yes, I agree that ITV1 and ITV2 are complete for the most part, but ITV3 (and even on occasion ITV2) does have some good US comedy and drama on it, that you wouldn't normally get to see.
To be honest, ITV1 will never show half of the stuff that's on its siblings, simply because they don't get the amount of viewers, which means less advertising revenue. I'd rather have something like ITV3 airing "The Practice" or "Dragnet" at a reasonable time, than have it shoved into a dodgy timeslot, that might change on a weekly basis, for the slightest whim, on ITV1.
ITV2 is aimed more for women anywhere. ITV3 is aimed at mature adults of both genders. And ITV4 will be aimed at men. ITV1 has to cover everyone else - which means popular stuff: soaps, quiz shows, reality TV, DIY and make-over shows. Basically, all the stuff that gets ratings, but that in fact, a lot of people dislike.
If anything, I watch more of the minority channels, than I do the main terrestrial offerings, with the exception of Five, because they are the only main terrestrial channel that actually shows anything decent on it, and to my liking.
they'll be showing re-runs of
I'm a celeb, get me out of here
I'm a celeb, love island
"ITV4 will be more male-biased but with a generalist programme."
Is this just going to be Men & Motors renamed, a la Granada Plus?
What ITV seem to do a lot of,is cycle the same tired films through each channel.Yeeha, now I can watch the same film four times in the space of a week, without setting the recorder!
i have been enjoying 'hammer house of horror' on saturday nights (ITV3), but thats about it
