ITV in digital deal with Sky
    By Damian Reece (Filed: 18/11/2001)

ITV and BSkyB will this week announce a peace treaty in their long-running battle over broadcasting rights that threatened to degenerate into a free-for-all.

Ratings puller: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is one of the ITV programmes that will soon be seen on Sky
In a deal worth nearly £17m a year, which has taken almost a year to negotiate, BSkyB has agreed to broadcast ITV1, ITV2 and ITV's sports channels on its satellite digital service. The agreement will bring relief to shareholders in Granada and Carlton, ITV's owners, since the two companies faced losing advertising worth up to £200m a year if an agreement was not reached.

It is understood that an announcement may come as early as tomorrow to allow Sky to start broadcasting ITV to its 5.3m subscribers on Tuesday, the day ITV could start broadcasting its programmes independently of Sky on the Astra satellite.

Never doubted the basic accuracy of the post I just don't give a damn about anything on ITV except the F1.
Given the choice I'd dump those broadcasts if we had access to the digital F1 service that other europeans countries have.

And don't get your hopes up too much. The ITV test channels have all gone over to 14:9 non-anamorphic.
