Is it me or was the broadcast quality very poor on ITV via SKY ?

Really bad actifacting on the pitch , ghosting around the players etc

did you find that the Pic quality was much better on ITV terrestrial even though the picture was a bit noisy of course ?

    any thought's ?

    bad compression I guess ?

The picture was perfect via the aerial (ITV analogue). It always is for the 5 terrestrial channels on our telly. Weird.

could it be my TV , I've just had it changed again and I must admit I'm not 100% happy with the picture anyway .

Is the TV set compatible with Sky Digiboxes? A lot aren't. Get the shop to demonstrate before you buy!

This is especially so if you are using RGB via scart.

I've had two replacement's for this TV now for varying problems , this third one just seems to struggle with poor reception through RF or badly compressed sky channels .

I have the same TV and I'm not over-impressed with football on Sky digital. It's worse for me on ITV so I tend to watch through terestrial. To me it appears like the players have a kind of "heat haze" around them

Hi JohnG , so you have a PB50 also ,which one 32" or 36" ?

Do you find sky football to be alot better than ITV premiership \champions league ?

I'm sure it's the source as DVD playback is superb .
how far away to you sit from your TV ,i've heard it has to be 5 times the screen width , we sit about 6-8 feet away but last night it still looked bad on ITV via sky with the heathaze you mention and the pitch looking like a billiard table sometimes

Other channels however such as the moive channel's,sky news are much better ,highter bit rate I presume , do you find this the case also ?

do you get the dirty screen problem ?

    Mine's the 32"
I do find Sky sports football to be a lot better than the ITV stuff. I'm finding exactly the same - it depends on the source. DVD, as you say, is superb and the better Sky channels are excellent too. I sit about 12 feet away.

In addition to this, I've tried better scart leads (Ixos) and it makes no difference.

that's Disappointing to hear as I’ve got a ixos 141av on order to replace one of my free cables . I was hoping it would improve things .

do you get the dirty screen problem (looks like your looking through a dirty window) , it's only obvious when the image pan's across a pale colour, like football

Not sure about the dirty image.
What I have noticed is that if I'm tuned into say bbc on analogue and then press the av button to watch sky I can quite often see things going up the screen. I've pinned it down to when credits are running on the analogue channel - there must be interference from there. You can get around this by switching to a non tuned in channel before pressing av.

Re the problem with 'Ghost credits' - I suffered from this for ages until I stumbled across an article about how pin 19 on a Scart can cause this because it feeds back composite video from TV to digibox. I took out the pliers, disconnected it and Hey presto - problem solved !

    Theres a diagram here http://www.daveladd.demon.co.uk/pscart/scartpinout.html

PS I also have same problem with ITV footy = I assumed it's low bitrate due to multiple regions.

I also find that the picture quality can be better via terrestrial, but unfortunately it isn't in 16:9 :( So you either have poor quality in widesceen, or good quality in 4:3
