I can remember them doing exactly the same thing to the race in Hungary many moons ago . Damon Hill in an Arrows , reeling in the German ,about to pass him and....... cut to :censored: adverts . Bring Back BBC and "The Race"
(still , after all these years :D )

That's a joke. I was listening on 5-live in the garage (good commentary) and almost went indoors to catch the last few laps - glad I didn't now. :)

It was disgusting. As soon as it happened I went onto their website to see if there was a complaints bit, but mysteriously their site was down. I wonder if it crashed under a few thousand other people trying to get on at the same time. And I think it was only 3 laps from the end.

It wasn't as if the break was a short one either. Was it just me, or did anyone else think there was something in Brundle's voice just before they went to the break that sort of suggested even he was thinking 'what, you're going to an ad break now!?'.

Imagine if a TV station went to a break during the last 3 minutes of the FA cup final with one team attacking like crazy.

Totally agree. It was shocking timing. Add that to them missing Schumacer's crucial 2nd pitstop... will or won't Alonso get past? Duh. It had already happened by the time we got back.

    A complete balls up. :thumbsdow

I think I remember ITV completely missing the end of a race on one occasion because of the ads.

what makes it worse is that they seem to have control over when they slot the given number of advert in, and there was plenty of time before schumacher caugh up with alonso, when they could have done so (it didnt need an einstein to work out a better time). What a complete joke. Surely the tv watchdog people will have something to say about this. :nono:

They even had the cheek to show the laps we missed, after the race had ended! Yeh, great that really makes up for it. No much point showing them now is there. We know he didn't get past him.

On the subject of F1 things ITV missed, I remember them missing the moment Hakkinen first became champion (1998). They were in an ad break when Schumacher went out of the race, making Hakkinen champion.

please everyone send a complaint via email, it was an absolute disgrace.

There coverage is very poor, they don't even show the second qualifying live.

I hope they don't renew there contract and a broadcaster serious about F1 takes it over

I think the above comment about brundel was true,it sounded to me like he
knew it was coming and boy what a wrong time to put a ad in.

Sent my comments via their website.

Trouble is, I bet ITV pay Bernie Ecclestone's mob an absolute fortune for the TV rights. I doubt there's a chance in hell of the BBC ever being able to afford it again, even if they wanted it.

The only real chance of being able to see it without ads is if Sky were to start doing it again. That's unlikely though, given their shortlived pay per view attempt a few years ago, which bombed as far as I know.

i'll be writing a stern letter to itv, telling them that i will be boycotting all products advertised during this break at the end of the grand prix. i will also be writing to said companies telling them that the placement of their ads on itv has caused me to boycott them. itv will ignore viewer complaints as long as theie advertisers are happy, so that's where they should be hit.
it's not the advertisers' fault as such but they have the power to influence decisions like this.
obviously my little complaint won't have much effect, but if others do the same, maybe someone will listen.

Yeah I was rather annoyed. They also only showed the after race interview with the first and second place drivers for some reason, no interview with Button.

Haven't seen much F1 this season as I've been fed up with it for a couple of seasons, round my parents today, not much to do, put GP on, best race I've seen in ages, s*** ITV cut it for adds 4 laps out, come back on last lap, go to adds after race about 5 mins later!!!! Then have the bloody nerve to show the last few laps again. If they want people to get interested again why do this. Agree with everyone here ITV CUT IT OUT OR GET OUT OF F1 YOU MORONS.

Sorry all I was so dsperate to vent my views that I skipped through and didn't realise it had all been said. Email sent to complain as well when I can get through to the site.

I think they ran 7 adds, the longest of the race.

After a missing a good few season of this sport due to the lack of excitment in most of the races and poor coverage, I watched the last 10 or so laps after flicking through the other channels. I thought that this could have been an exciting climax to the race and looked as though the sport had regained some exicitment back. But then what excitment had been built up over the last few laps soon dissapeared when 'lets ruin every sport we show', sorry I.T.V decide to cut to adverts. Dont think ill bother watching that anymore, well not until someone else has the rights anyway.
    I.T.V your a disgrace.

Having lived in Berlin from 93 to 2000 and watched RTL's coverage of F1, I can just imagine their reaction to Schumachers race. Blimey if you think the British can be fanatical.

I really used to enjoy watching FI on Eurosport. Now they really did give good coverage. Mid week program, Friday warm up and practice and they had ads.

Advertising slots always used to be (and probably still are) sold on a real-time bidding system to the higest bidder; they are not finalised until very shortly before they go out - there is/was a big (Honeywell when I was involved with it) computer system down at Thames Ditton that handles it all.

So - if things are getting gripping there will be lots of people watching, so the price goes up.
