I recently bought a new laptop as the old one just about died.
Problem is the old one (which is no longer working) contains itunes and all my music.
Basically, I want to know whether if I install a new version of itunes onto my new laptop, I can then sync it to my ipod. I understand that (possibly) my ipod is associated to the version on my dead laptop ?
I don't care about the songs I had on the old machine but would like to be able to upload new music to my ipod - something I can't do now.

Sorry if that's a bit long winded. Any help appreciated.....

Yep, just install iTunes on your new computer and load all your music into your library.

When you plug in your iPod, it will ask you if you want to sync with the new library. Click yes and it should be fine.

If your iTunes library is blank on the new laptop it will wipe the iPod.

    So be careful.

If you want to retrieve the music that's stored on your iPod then there are ways to copy it back to your new laptop, I think it's in the FAQs at the top of this thread - Q11 from memory.

But if your iPod only contains part of your library, and the old laptop is a gonner, then you will need to re-rip your music I'm afraid.

Once bitten twice shy. Buy an external hard drive and back it up!
