iTunes adding random albums twice to iPod?

Like in this example, the duplicate songs were added at the same time, but I clearly only have 1 copy of the album and 1 set of songs in the album folder.

This seems to be hapenning to loads of random albums and it's really hard to spot on a full 160gb iPod. iTunes' duplicate song feature doesn't help much either as it only searches your iTunes library, not your iPod specifically, and even then it only brings up duplicate artist and title records.

This happened to me with my first iPod, the 4G Nano

Reason: Files within an album are tagged differently in the artist or album fields where it should all be the same...

Or, where there is more than one artist on a track, you need to set the album as a compilation album on iTunes

I'm not sure if it is fixable with setting the compilation tag, that usually splits albums not duplicates tracks, but worth trying. Although it's almost certainly a tagging issue - load the folder up in MP3tag and have a look to see if all the tags are identical. Look at the extended tags too.

Just to be sure, are they only duplicated on iPod or do you see the duplicates in your main iTunes library too?

You could have had those songs in a playlist too, i know when ive added music to itunes again (as in rebuilding your library), ive accidently added the playlist, and it adds it twice to your library.

And the winner is... influxrye.

Found out yesterday that adding a folder with an m3u playlist inside will add all the songs twice. Now I've had to search for all the m3u files in my music folder (231 all together), then find the corresponding albums on my iPod and control-select every other one and delete it.

I'm surprised you don't see more adverts for iPod management jobs. I could quite easily do this full-time :(

Playlists? Pah! I rock it with albums in their play order

Prizes?!?! :D

I was a bit baffled the first time that happened. I use a lot of playlists for dj'ing, and itunes stores them in the most stupid of places, as if it was another artist. So you have folders like itunes/itunes music/my playlists, when it could just be in the next folder up.
