£8!?! Where do I avoid?
Be careful using the U.S list. Don't forget that some studios offering UHD files stateside won't be the ones with UK distribution rights over here. I'm hoping that they give us the Watchmen and King Kong UHD releases, at least then we might actually get the extended editions made available over here then. Same goes for Terminator 2.
Don't get me started on tv show ripping. If you actually have the time and patience to go through and rip, shrink, rename every episode of long running tv shows like X-files, Friends, Frasier, Etc then you go for it. The space they take up is ridiculous on HDD even shrunk down. Tv Shows will ultimately add to your server costs a lot, for a bulk of files that will just be sitting there most of the time. You are also at the point now where some studios have stopped bothering releasing tv show titles on disc, or only on DVD. If you think the effort involved is worth the extra cost and hassle that's fine, I wouldn't have gone down that road to start with if I didn't like the idea of it.
I totally agree. I have over 900 discs ripped, and a mountain of Tv shows. And some have been easy to do right, but some have been a pain.
I've fiddled with HTPCs, Plex etc and Kodi for sure on a powerful PC can be high maintenance, with a life of its own. Not to mention MPC HC setups and so on.
These days, as I'm getting older, I'm beginning to realise that life's too short for ripping and troubleshooting on a Friday night after a hard week at work.
So I'm looking forward to iTunes 4K. Easy access to a hopefully pretty good quality movie, instantly. And I'll still buy the flagpole movies on disc.
iTunes 4K with the Plex app may kill my need for the HTPC also, I'm kind of hoping. Big power hungry beast that it is.
needs to sort the DRM out, prices are good, but the fact that I can't put the film on another device (eg: put it on my laptop and watch it) makes it worthless.
But wont you be able to watch it in iTunes on your laptop?
I watch iTunes stuff on my pc and the wife's laptop, just stick iTunes on and you're good to go.
Only thing we can't play them on is the wife's Samsung tablet.
Ok mate then great, would love to see what else is on there.
I have iTunes credit but I think the safe option is keep it till I can confirm for myself of the UK titles worth getting. Nothing shows on my laptop regarding 4k titles, so I would love to see proof of UK titles too.
There were definitely some on the UK store that said 4K now, but it seems to be just HD now.
Maybe they've just removed the 4K until Friday when there's something to play them on?
Possibly. Or it could be to maximise revenue after the fact. Think of it this way.
They told us at that event that UHD pricing was tiered at £13.99, and that we would get free upgrades to UHD for the content in our collections.
Now for example something like Kingsman. Right now it's £3.99 on the store, and if we buy it now (it had UHD icons after all) then we know we've got a cheap UHD upgrade coming.
Now what if next week they intend to blanket price ALL UHD content AT £13.99 until sales etc. If they advertise that fact ahead of schedule, then they'll have lost out on potential revenue when UHD launches. Somebody not owning that content at that point will be paying £13.99, not £3.99. So whoops, take down the icons before too many potential sales are lost.
Or.. it could just be some server errors they are sorting.
Which is why I haven't jumped in just yet. Playing it safe.
I just bought Fantastic Beasts via my current ATV for £10.99. It was displaying the 4K icon so the UHD disc will be on eBay and I'll get the complete Harry Potter 4K set when that's available too - cancelled the £89.99 Amazon disc set.
Both showing only as HD from my iPhone.
Showing 4k on my iPad and iPhone, but I’m running iOS 11 already.
O and paid £3.99 for Kingsmen while price low and it shows 4k on my films
What's SDH on Alien Covenant?
So that's 2 titles without hdr, ok for some but for me the very minimum they will have to have hdr, hopefully Dolby Vision.
Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard Of Hearing
Some have Dolby Vision but not found HDR yet
So the Fantastic Beasts I just bought might not have HDR...
Only says Dolby Vision at the mo. Maybe things will change when 4k ATV is officially out.
HDR movies on the iPad Pro
Maybe it's just waiting on iOS 11? Or the 4K ATV?
Search for a program called FileBot. Its free and it renames all episodes to whatever format you prefer. Saved me a lot of time over the years.
Looking at that I’m with you on the device would have to have HDR capability for it to show up I guess.
All my apple devices are running iOS 11,but none have HDR capabilities. Sorry lol
I've got Life of Pi on my US iTunes account and that's 4K too, I hope one of these two is HDR so I can try the new ATV on Friday. Also if a disc or download is Dolby Vision and your TV is only HDR you don't get HDR10?
Hopefully it's like UHD discs and downgrades DV down to HDR, unlike vudu which I believe is DV only.
If something says Dolby Vision then it's basically HDR10 but with added metadata on top, so playback will still come in HDR for TV's that cannot output Dolby Vision. Similar analogy to how old Av receivers can still pick out a core Dolby Digital track if they couldn't handle Dolby True HD.
Say: "Sucker Punch"
Ends your movie watching career right there. Or at least any credibility on any forum.
I know, I know, even now I think I overpaid for it..
Yeah mines showing HDR now too
All mine are too also now
