To be fair it came out in time to make the award i think the 70s and 50 came out to late...

I think the 300 won first time round.

Phew, I can sleep in peace now...

Nothing against the camera, but why is an organisation like TIPA giving out those kinds of awards? Surely they realise that a good photo has very little to do with camera...The cynic in me always thinks about the sponsorship money that is being received...

I wonder what the awards are based on? It seems odd that Photoshop CS2 got an award if you ask me - its only just hit the shelves, hardly had time to be field tested thoroughly.

It's been around on beta for a while... but i agree it does seem premature, and largely meaningless.

These are almost joke awards ... I remember when I was really into Hi-fi all kinds of junk seemed to get an award. Never saw the small company super high quality British stuff featured, perhaps they had too small an annual marketing spend. Not that the 350D is junk of course, but take with a large pinch of salt.

The only exception to the above was the 300D of course :rotfl: :rotfl:

:D no i wasn't shooting anybody. I read about the awards a few days ago on dpreview and just thought they were a bit odd. Especially the timing.

300D in 2003, D70 in 2004, 350D in 2005.....yawn. On the basis that the D70 won last year the 350D hardly has much competition does it?

Still, I suppose they're worthwhile if you need someone you don't know to validate your purchase.

"With its CMOS 8.2 MP sensor and Digic II image-processor, the Canon EOS 350D is the most compact and powerful digital SLR camera on the market..."

    The most powerful SLR eh?....

I wasn't trying to validate anything. I was posting something that some people may have been interested in. Which your clearly not looking at your posts. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about the lack of competition at the moment. I sometimes think posting on here is like trying to walk through a mine field.

I wasn't actually aiming that at you ASH1 - it was aimed at TIPA and any of these daft awards (hence my second post mentioning their lack of knowledge). Apologies if it came across otherwise.

Seems a bit daft having a 2005 award in April as well.

No problem, as you're aware sometimes you post something with good intentions and get your head bidden off. I'll go and take my Prozac now. :D

'"blablabla 2.0XLDTDi" is the Best Car of the Year 2005, released 1.5 days ago!' :)

very often with cars, cameras and alike, the journo's get to hammer them to destruction long before the general public get to use them, so I would not be surprised that some organisations can give them early awards based on the feedback from thier respective industries eyes and ears,.......this thread has great potential for degenerating into a nikon Vs Canon scrap....and they get a bit aggressive these tit for tat threads, "walking through a minefield", as someone said earlier, it gets a bit tedious dont you think.

Would anybody agree on a record of the year just because the NME had play of it first?

    I'm not buying it

Good camera but it's only just come out it makes no sense to award it before it's been given time to prove itself.

    Meaningless award in my opinion

Then it should actually say "most compact and powerful budget SLR".

And is power defined entirely by MP count now?

Hi Radiohead, I don't wish to split hairs but it does actually have a heading of "Best D-SLR Entry Level ". Just another way of saying budget I guess.
