To be honest I'm dreading it. The Doctor with a northern accent? It's as out of place as Dirty Harry with a Louisiana drawl.

Can't help agreeing with this one - it seemed so out of place when I first heard him speak... surely he could have toned it down a bit. Or maybe they are gonna claim that the Doctor now comes from Northern Gallifrey!

Looks like the Doctor will not be a bit eccentric with those clothes, as someone said Time Lord more like Crime Lord. :D

Come on, surely its no more ludicrous than The Doctor being played by Worzel Gummidge?

According to Christopher Ecclestone, when he was watching Dr Who as a child ("in a housing estate in Manchester") the fact that the Doctor was so relentlessly foppish and upper middle class made the whole thing seem a little bit too detached from his everyday experience, and not very easy to identify with. So there's been a deliberate attempt (by both Ecclestone and the writers) to try and make the new show appeal to a broader audience in that respect.

No Worzel Gummidge was played by the actor who played Dr Who, Jon Pertwee role as Dr Who came before Worzel Gummidge when he had his Dr Who head on. ;)

I quite like the idea of The Doctor with a Northern accent, it'll add a touch of class (pronounced CLASS, not CLARS!) :D

Listening to the distorted vowels spouted by Ecclestone in the trailers my fears appear fully founded.

Well, after seeing Mr Ecclestone on the Jonathon Ross Show last night and the montage preview, I'm really looking forward to this. I can't understand the fuss about his accent. Didn't Sylvester McCoy have a Scottish accent?

I think someone was having a bit of fun, well I was. I'm really crap at noticing accents not unless they are really broad.

Quite enjoyed the first episode, though the teaser for this week's looked more interesting - some 'proper' aliens, not just shop dummies coming to life (been done soo many times...)
